NJ has ALWAYS been an abuser of property rights.
The only case I'm aware of that made national news before this one is 'Political bribes a la McGreevey "Machiavellian" style'
Other than that, all the other land grabs usually just stay in local news.

This kind of sounds like some of the corrupt counties in Georgia a few years ago. Except back then, instead of taking a competitors land away, they would just burn the place down and let the people know that to rebuild would just result in more fires. Many of the people who ruled these counties have died or reached an age where they can no longer get away with that stuff.
The funny things is, a Democratic Governor Lester Maddox went to one of the worst counties to end the corruption. The county was beginning to give the State a bad name. He got in the Governors Limo and went down to Long county to check it out. They wrote him up with all kind of traffic tickets and then threw him in jail when he said he was the state Governor. The head man of the county looked at him and said, well I'm the president of the United states.
When the Governor got out of jail he ordered big billboards be put up at all roads leading into the county. The very first night they were all cut down. The next day they all went back up and had 24 hour protection from the Georgia State Patrol. It didn't take long for the county to begin changing it's ways.

Gov. Maddox almost makes me want to switch parties.
Can we have him?

I hate to say it, But former Governor Lester Maddox passed away just a couple of years ago. Even though he was a Democrat, he was also a very strong man in the lines of Georgia Senator Zell Miller.

Maybe Souter would be interested in the property.
I heard he is going to be in the market for a new home soon.
This is New Joisey at its best. Too bad there are so many decent people back there who have to put up with this kind of crap.

bump ... how long is it going to be until someone just starts killing politicians like this?
It's beyond insane to think someone won't do it eventually.

As a practical matter, why is the US moving to make things more difficult for property owners when the US has tediously created the most comprehensive land ownership system in the world? The US has had general private property ownership for only a century, but that is the oldest such system in the world, and obviously has led to the US being the richest country on earth. Why start reversing the process? Do we really want to become like Argentina, Haiti, Somalia to any degree whatsoever?
