With all this controversy, I don't think Bush can get reelected. The Democrats will finally be able to beat him.

Mr. Bartlett wrote about personalities, when he was supposed to be writing about policies.

In a statement, the organization said the decision was made after Mr. Bartlett supplied its president, John C. Goodman, with the manuscript of his forthcoming book, "The Impostor: How George W. Bush Bankrupted America and Betrayed the Reagan Legacy."Was it this or his book?

For many, the hope of finally turning around the judiciary was worth putting up with all the big government stuff. Thus, Bush's pick of a patently unqualified crony for a critical position on the Supreme Court was the final straw. That's it in a nutshell. Can you say lame duck, with an emphasis on LAME?

Conservative intellectuals -- what is that? Never heard those terms I have been a conservative for years.
This has gone over the top and why I haven't commented until now. I am not defending or dissing the nomination but I do believe the rhetoric is way overboard when someone starts using the term conservative intellectuals. Why do I care what any intellectual has to say be it a liberal or conservative? First it was all the grassroots not liking the nomination and not it is the intellectuals.
No wonder all those potential nominees said they wanted no part of the confirmation process. After reading FR and listening to talk radio, any person would have to be nuts to want to be subjected to all kinds of name calling and insults that I keep seeing and hearing. If the Senators and House members had to go through the same confirmation hearings, bet most of them would say it wasn't worth it.

This airing of grievances reminds me of George Castanza from Seinfeld fame. And yes, I have to laugh.

Of course, this doesn't say much for the conservative movement. At best, conservatives were naive about Bush. At worst, they sold out much of what they claim to believe in.Oh please.
He makes it sound like conservatives are idiots or easily led fools.
Does he not realize that many many conservatives knew exactly what they'd be getting with George Bush, but voted him regardless? These same astute conservatives who knew what they would get with Bush also knew darn good and well what they would have gotten with Gore or Kerry.
Given the choice between two candidates, one of which is only 80% right, while the other is 100% wrong, choosing the 80% right candidate is neither stupid, nor is it "selling out". It's just common sense.

Almost all conservatives view campaign finance reform as a blatantly unconstitutional abridgement of the First Amendment, the Supreme Court's endorsement notwithstanding. Now it may end up being used to suppress blogs and other new media that have been critical for conservatives in breaking the liberal monopoly of the mainstream press. ---

The End.

Anyone that paid any attention to elder Bush would never have believed junior was a conservative.
I only hope the republicans do not ever hope to foist Jeb off on us.

Of the three of them, Jeb is probably the closest to being a conservative. He's a great leader, too. His father and brother have screwed him out of any chance to be president, though.

If that does occur-and he reneges on his promise not to run for higher office-I'll not only vote against him, but be first in line to campaign against his nomination.
