On a more serious note, I predicted to friends that the towns taking hurricane victims would soon resent their presence, and it's happening...and the media is doing everything it can to speed up that process.

I don't want to hate the black community, and I don't, and I'm tired of them being disgraced by the liberals and the media. The media is trying to make me resent them. The media is trying to make me hate them. The media wants me to believe that the black community is nothing but thugs and looters and drug dealers.

Why has there not been ONE story of a black family doing the RIGHT thing after the hurricane? I know there are many, many of them who have, but we don't see it -all we see is the media drooling over making the entire black community look like criminals. Scandal! Refugees went to a strip club! Scandal! Refugees are miss-spending money handed to them with no limits!

What about the people who bought food and shelter with the federal money? Why no mention of them?

I'm sick and tired of it. These are our fellow Americans, and they are treated like pawns by the liberals and the media. We need to save this community, before their leaders and the media and the liberals foment open warfare in all of our streets.

I'm not going to give up on an entire segment of our population. Yes, there are thugs, dealers, pimps, looters - but they're NOT the majority. Why can't the media show us that?

It's got to stop.

They're there - check the local stations; check the local newspapers. I know of a number of good stories here in Atlanta alone.

Technically I can't point you to any specific ones (I have reasons for my stealth), but the AJC and other places here are posting positive stories.

Other local television stations and newspapers are posting similarly good stories across the nation.

Why the networks aren't posting the good stuff? You know the reason - they subscribe to the legendary mantra: "If it bleeds, it leads." Dirty laundry sells.

But don't despair - there are good things out there.

... because they are not newsworthy. The black families that have acted responsibly are independent, industrious, and self-sufficient. Most, but not all, evacuated themselves and are getting on with their lives ... wherever they find themselves. The news media must find them quite boring!

It is the small percentage of helpless, dependent people who have gotten all of the publicity. Of course they are pathetic; but, they are pathetic largely as a result of a failed welfare system that has guaranteed that they will be helpless. One can only hope that the unprecedented generosity of the American people will open up avenues of opportunity so that at least some of these people can learn to be independent and self-sufficient.

Hope for the best ... be prepared for the worst.

The people who are still in shelters are going to be disfunctional. Most people went to shelters, signed up for aid, then got in touch with their friends or relatives and moved on.

The people who stayed in shelters longer than a week are almost always going to be those with mental or emotional problems, substance abuse issues or con artists.

People who go out, get a new job and start a new life don't make a good front page story.
