Closed but infinite. Napoleon on his island is just another polite man tending his little garden. Napoleon in the midst of Continental upheaval is a true man seeing and then creating patterns in Nature never seen before and inspiring his officers to do the same. When the situation is hopeless is when true men create new patterns. Nobody is watching; 'borrow' a small boat and show up unexpected.
