Griswold is garbage. If Miers supports the majority opinion in Griswold en toto she'll get no further support from me. This phrase is the gospel to judicial activists:

Roberts supported Griswald. Griswald is sort of becoming like Brown v Board of Education. Everybody "loves" it, and if you don't, you are unfit. Harlan (a normally very sensible fellow) in the Poe dissent pointed out that you cannot have a right to liberty as protected in the 14th amendment if you don't have liberty in the sense of decriminalization as to the practice of certain sexual details within a marriage (but not of course outside the marriage, no, no, NO!). You could just feel the rage in his patrician WASP pen as he wrote the words. Birth control being made a crime! I WON'T HAVE IT! THAT'S AN OUTRAGE! [What will those Catholics do next?]

You should read his dissent. It is quite amusing. Bias here, bias there, bias, bias everywhere. It is in the water.

I think you can support Griswold and oppose the abomination of Roe at the same time. The two are mutually exclusive. Roberts too said he supported Griswold.

Miers DID NOT tell Specter she supported Griswold, as Specter claimed yesterday.

Specter has had to make an "embarrassing" retraction of this claim, according to ABC radio news (9 am EDT, Tuesday October 18).

ABC News is reporting that Specter now says he "misunderstood" Harriet Miers re Griswold in their private meeting yesterday -- which I predicted here on this thread yesterday.

To Torie and nwrep: Roberts also did NOT make a statement of support for Griswold at his confirmation hearings. Like Specter, you have misunderstood Roberts's response.

There's a lot of disinformation being put out about Miers.
