Another theory is that everyone at the Times hated her because of her MSM reports and because she had taken the government oath to keep any secrets she learned.

That rather contradicts the journalist role to take an oath not to divulge what the government doesn't want divulged. She seems to be an opportunist - not to be trusted by any side.

This is important because Plame's role in recommending him for the Africa trip, as documented by the Senate Intelligence Committee, possibly violated federal nepotism laws.

Yes, a fraudulent and blatant misuse of federal funds. Wilson and Plame should be charged.

Well .. Porter Goss did a lot of housecleaning .. I believe there were several top level people who resigned (instead of being fired).

While I'm sure there are a lot of dems still there, hopefully they are not so prevelant in the policy making portion of the department.

The diagnosis is: With the exception of the Bush Administration and the DOD, the entire govertnment is ate up with terminal cancer and is attacking with a vengence, the remaining healthy parts of government.

The prognosis is not good.

snip...Who in the CIA was orchestrating the Wilson affair to damage the Bush administration? Is Fitzgerald investigating that?

If not, a major miscarriage of justice is underway.snip....

Let us hope that Fitzgerald nails all of them!

Sounds to me like Joe Wilson is a double agent for al Qaeda.

When this is all over it will be further evidence that the "culture of corruption" does not lay within the Republican party. pelosi has only to look so far as her own democrat criminals and their media lapdog whores to find the real corruption in poltitics now a days. It sure doesn't seem as though there is any reason to think Rove or Libby will be indicted. And this new development proves something I've suspected for months. Why would a liberal times reporter go to the big hours for MONTHS to protect someone that's part of a Republican administration, ESPECIALLY Karl Rove!? That just makes NO SENSE! Now with her saying she can't remember the source of the information that she went to jail to protect, that makes me think what I thought when this first happened. She's protecting some liberal democrat. A democrat is the ONLY person a member of the media would protect when there are charges pending on who the source is. But there will likely be less media attention given to the real sourse being proven to be a democrat, if it is, than has been given to the speculation and flat out guessing that it might be Rove or Libby. That's the nature of the BS media. Accuse even if you can't prove it, the accusation will help the democrats, and that's all that matters.

Exactly! And if you follow the money, see who is really behind her million-dollar book deal. Occam's razor.

I am under the impression that Wilson received no salary but his travel costs were reimbursed. I would like to know who authorized the travel orders. Also, I'd like to know why Wilson was not required to sign a statement of confidentiality before making the trip.

The biggest liar in all of this has been Wilson!

No-freakin'-DUH!! If only the MSM would be honest and point out this fact. I won't hold my breath, but it would sure be nice...

As far as Wilson and Plame go, in my opinion, they are the ones who should be the targets and should be indicted. I am hoping (against hope perhaps?) that they ARE the targets and that when (if) indictments are handed down, Wilson and Plame (along with anyone else who conspired with them) will be facing a speedy trial...

This is the only thing that makes sense. Joe Wilson and Plame must have been doing so. However there possibly was another orchestrating this from afar. Who would benefit from such a series of events? Most notable to me would be Hillary.

I don't know why that fat, ugly, Bush-hating scow, Helen Thomas, was ever allowed near the White House after January 20, 2001.

Mr. Libby alluded to the existence of two intelligence reports about Iraq's uranium procurement efforts. One report dated from February 2002. The other indicated that Iraq was seeking a broad trade relationship with Niger in 1999, a relationship that he said Niger officials had interpreted as an effort by Iraq to obtain uranium."

What's more, Miller says, "My notes indicate that Mr. Libby told me the report on the 1999 delegation had been attributed to Joe Wilson."

In other words, Wilson was denying something that he had actually confirmed. In fact, there had been an Iraqi attempt to procure uranium from Africa. No wonder Libby was upset with Wilson's article in the Times and the CIA's role in arranging his trip.

Yes...Hillary, most likely, IMO.

Plame has hosted many fund-raisers for Hillary and they've known each other for years from what I've read.

The CIA needs a good housecleaning. Our intelligence agencies are NOT supposed to involve themselves in politics and the idea that a rat in the agency was trying to undermine the Bush Administration is just plain wrong!

Has any REAL journalist looked into the Niger document story? I hear stories about them being forged, but has this ever been verified...?

The story is that French intel was looking into the story (and since the mines in Niger are French, if they were making contraband shipments, the French themselves would be involved). They obtained some legitimate documents referring to uranium smuggling. They commissioned the agent to obtain more documents, which he did, working with employees of the Niger embassy in Rome.

These documents were signed, or had a forged signature, by a Niger official no longer in office, although obviously the Niger embassy would know that.

He handed those documents with the forged signature over to French intel. French intel handed them to CIA. CIA leaked to the press that the Niger story was based on forged documents, which as it turns out were commissioned by French intel and produced by the Niger government.

The press had a field day with it, and were allowed to ignore the fact that the original story was true, the French had real documents that they didn't turn over, the French themselves were doing the smuggling.

When Libya turned "state's evidence" it turned out that they had received contraband shipments of uranium from Niger, despite Wilson story.

As for Iraq, they had sent a delegation there in 1999, which Wilson knew to be true. In pointing at the fake documents, he sought to shift attention away from this and other efforts to smuggle uranium.
