BAGHDAD, Iraq Oct 17, 2005 — U.S. helicopters and warplanes bombed two villages near the restive city of Ramadi, killing around 70 militants, the military said Monday. Officials said all the dead were insurgents, though witnesses said at least 39 were civilians.

The violence on Sunday occurred a day after Iraq voted on and apparently passed a landmark constitution that many Sunnis opposed. On referendum day, a roadside bomb killed five U.S. soldiers in a vehicle in the Al-Bu Ubaid village on the eastern outskirts of Ramadi.

On Sunday, a group of around two dozen Iraqis gathered around the wreckage of the U.S. vehicle and were hit by the airstrikes by U.S. warplanes, both the military and witnesses said.

great news! I have been waiting to hear that we waste a bunch of those nasty vultures that dance around our destroyed vehicles , esp where lives were lost.
I hope this becomes SOP

Radical Islam insurgents / civilians

How can you tell them apart in most of these cases?

Once they are dead and no longer thinking and shooting at you, they probably are hard to distinguish?

"A tribal leader, Chiad Saad, said the airstrike hit the crowd, killing 25 people civilians. Several witnesses corroborated his version, though they refused to give their names out of fear for their safety."

Terrorists.

It's all good.

"The other deaths occurred in the village of Al-Bu Faraj. The military said a group of gunmen opened fire on a Cobra attack helicopter that had spotted their position. The Cobra returned fire, killing around 10. The remaining gunmen ran into a nearby house, where they were seen unloading weapons. An F/A-18 warplane struck the building with a bomb, killing 40 insurgents, the military said."

Good hunting

This would qualify as hear-say evidence, uncorroborated. You know, the kind of evidence that caused so much hysteria in getting to the bottom of the problems in New Orleans.

This is the point to keep harping on as it looks like the press refuses to learn the very simple lesson that the enemy will gladly advance someone plausible to make the least plausible case.

Tell me ABC sent a reporter into those towns after our airstrike to ask the locals their view of what had happened.
Most of the MSM is working overtime now to but a bad spin on the election and all the "possible" problems that will result. Remember, good news for America and our military is very bad news for the MSM. They wake up every morning hoping this will be the day the sky falls. Every night they go to bed disappointed, but still hopeful.

I think there's a baby milk factory in that town, isn't there?

And to hit it during Ramadan - tsk, tsk.

Well I see the Arab Broadcast Collaborators (ABC) are still busy spreading their idol's propaganda. IF they go dance over the bodies of our dead, they are NOT civilians anymore but part of the "insurgency".

Many did but unfortunately for the MSM not enough to derail it.

U.S. helicopters and warplanes bombed two villages near the restive city of Ramadi

Right out of the box, ABC is conjuring up images of American warplanes bombing villagers gathering water for the day and cooking rice and beans for breakfast.

...witnesses said at least 39 were civilians.

The terrorists are civilians by definition. If they're not wearing a national military uniform, they're civilians. If ABC didn't straight-up fabricate the witnesses that they're quoting, they probably quoted the one or two Baathists that they could find who are upset about the bombing. The Iraqi civilians want these people gone, that's whey they're turning in tips as fast as the US and Iraqi military can take them.
