Three Israelis have been killed and four wounded near a settlement in the West Bank, Israeli sources say. The gunmen shot from a passing vehicle at a bus stop outside Gush Etzion, a major settlement bloc. Another Israeli was wounded in a separate shooting.
Israel Radio said militants of the al-Aqsa Martyrs' Brigades had admitted carrying out the Gush Etzion attack.
Israeli troops later killed a leader of Islamic Jihad near the northern West Bank town of Jenin during a shootout.
There has been an upsurge of violence since Israel withdrew from the Gaza Strip on 12 September.
Troops searching
"A Palestinian passed by in a car, let off a burst of fire, and struck down people standing at the hitchhiking post," Shaul Goldstein, a settler leader in Gush Etzion, told Israel Radio.
A large number of Israeli troops have been sent to the area near Bethlehem to look for the attackers.
The second attack took place near the settlement of Eli in the northern West Bank. Israeli rescue services said one Israeli was seriously wounded.
The Islamic Jihad militant was killed during a clash near Jenin.
Palestinian hospital officials said Nihad Abu Ghanim, 27, died after being shot in the head, abdomen and chest.
He was the top Islamic Jihad militant in the northern West Bank town of Burkin.
Israeli military officials said that Abu Ghanim was killed when Israeli troops spotted an armed Palestinian during a routine patrol.
Palestinian militant factions began a ceasefire early this year, but low-level violence has continued.
After an Israeli raid which killed three militants early this month, al-Aqsa militants in Jenin said they were ending their truce.

"low level violence" being when you catch a couple of rounds through the head.
"high level violence" is when you are blown to bits while buying a newspaper at a bus stop.

Typically the BBC would just report that Israeli's were accidentally shot and killed when they managed to stray into an area used by the terrorists for target practice....

The BBC outrage report after Sharon and the IDF smoke Gaza and flash fry via napalm anything larger than an ant.

Israel just isn't doing enough to promote peace in the ME.
If they were doing enough then this perpetual Pali aggression, forced upon them by Israeli lack of faith in the peace initiative, wouldn't be necessary. (extreme sarcasm)

The "Peace Process" uses innocent Israeli blood as its fuel source.

This is no joke - I made the mistake of listening to the BBC World Service on NPR very early one morning (it was either that or Art Bell) and they actually referred to one of these attacks as a "shooting by Palestinian activists."

The "Peace Process" uses innocent Israeli blood as its fuel source. A most potent source of fuel to boot.
Offer the Palestinians the solar system in total and freedom to do as they wish and nothing would change for they would stay where they are and continue their hate filled aggressions against Israel.
Give and take talks as they have been going on for 40+ years won't solve anything until aggression is stifled.
This stifling of aggression has nothing to do with Israel or it's giving up of land.

You are sadly mistaken: high level violence is when one catches it in the upper extremities. Low level violence is when one gets it in the lower parts of the body. Spanking, for example, is low-level, while jerking by the hair [with the same educational purpose] is high. There also is a middle-level violence.

So did a whole bunch on the left in Israel.
Perhaps if they just give up Jerusalem...? Perhaps not.
If Sharon does not respond to the escalating violence and rhetoric soon he had better start handing out inner tubes and pictorial maps to the Mediterranean coast.
