"Does anyone remember back in 1979 when the Sunnis were the 'good' Muslims and the Shiites were the evil Muslims?"

Yes, I remember that. I also remember when the Chinese were good communists but the Soviets were bad communists!

"Even if the constitution is adopted, the Sunnis will never agree to live under it and civil war will follow."

They'll define civil war as anything short of complete peace and tranquility in Iraq.

One of the DNC talking points pimped on today's Sunday shows?

Speaking of talking points, did anyone catch Stephanopolous's show his morning? He had a graphic prepared that showed a rising number of insurgent acts which he sprung on the Iraqi ambassador while interviewing him. One segment later, Democrat Carl Levin cited the same stats in his comments. Makes you wonder if they both got the same DNC memo.

Just heard a correspondant on NPR say that the insurgents had planned on standing down in order to let the Sunnis go to the polls and vote "no".

FWIW

Uh, yeah. Yet in Ninivah province, where it is largely Sunni, 300,000 voted FOR it and only 80,000 against it. How is that strong opposition?

The terrorists and the Sunni voters really let the AP down this weekend.

BAGHDAD, Iraq -- Iraq's constitution seemed headed toward passage Sunday despite strong opposition from Sunni Arabs, who turned out in surprisingly high numbers in an effort to stop it. The apparent victory was muted, though, by the prospect that the result might divide the country further.

Let's see, two years ago they were living under the thumb of a brutal, ruthless, dictator and now they are set to vote passage of a constitution that makes Iraq the only Middle East Democracy. Hmmm. AP Still finds a way to spin this triumph into a disaster. It's tough living your life so stuck in your negative, outdated worldview that you can't see reality when it bitch slaps you up side the head.
