Posted on 10/15/2005 10:56:59 PM PDT by Jim Robinson
Fellow Americans:
For more than a year now I've been filling your email boxes with updates regarding Move America Forward's work to support our troops and their efforts to achieve victory in the war on terrorism.
But now a new chapter in my life has begun to be written, and I must step back from my day-to-day role as the Founder and Co-Chairman of MAF and turn over full control to my great partner in the conservative movement, Melanie Morgan.
I have decided to become a Republican candidate for U.S. Congress [ see: http://www.KaloogianForCongress.com ] in the seat being vacated by Congressman Randy "Duke" Cunningham. This isn't a decision I made lightly. There are very few things that would compel me to step down from my active involvement in Move America Forward. The work we have all done together makes me prouder than just about anything else I've done in my life.
(PLEASE NOTE: I've included a list of some of our accomplishments we achieved together at the end of this email. I hope you will take a moment to review the list, it's humbling to realize how much we've accomplished together!)
The people of my home district in San Diego County will have an open congressional seat and need a new conservative leader to fight for the values we share. We cannot allow this seat to fall to a liberal, whether under the label of a Democrat or Republican-In-Name-Only, or a carpetbagger living outside the district. I don't need to convince you of the importance for solid conservative leaders in the Congress, as we all had to endure the letdowns from numerous 'Republicans' during the John Bolton nomination hearings and battle over the filibustering against conservative judicial appointments.
We are in the majority, and we should act like it. There are too many important issues we must address, and we need to send representatives to Congress who are serious about sticking to their principles - even if it means criticism from the news media and losing invites to A-List parties from the Washington elite.
These issues include:
* BORDER CONTROL. Securing our borders once and for all and stopping the taxpayer-funded giveaways to illegal aliens.
* DEFEAT TERRORISM. Supporting our troops and their fight against terrorism, and making sure that we don't allow our elected leaders to back down and/or impose restraints on our military as was done to our fighting men and women in Vietnam.
* STOP WASTEFUL SPENDING. Ending the ridiculous addiction to spending on massive government programs. I hate to say it, but plenty of 'Republicans' have shown the same inability to 'just say NO' to more spending as their Democrat counterparts.
Friends, I'm so grateful to all of you, and I must salute the core group of grassroots conservatives who first began working with Melanie Morgan and I on the Recall Gray Davis Committee [ http://www.RecallGrayDavis.com ], of which I was the Chairman. We made history - recalling the first statewide official in California's history - and helped to begin the process to turn the Golden State around.
Many of you also have worked with me on preserving the legacy of President Ronald Reagan on the Defend Reagan Committee [ http://www.DefendReagan.org ], where I also served as Chairman.
And now, I have to ask that you all redouble your efforts with Move America Forward to help sustain the high morale and resolve our troops - and the people in this nation - must have to prevail in the prolonged war against Islamic terrorists.
I also wouldn't mind if you checked in on my congressional campaign from time-to-time. I am going to need your help to beat back the established interests that will try to elect one of their own 'go along, get along,' bought-and-paid-for' candidates who will sell out principles in a heartbeat.
If you want to follow the progress of my efforts, you can log on to http://www.KaloogianForCongress.com - the website is being updated every day and I look forward to an exciting campaign.
Thank you again for all you have done to support Move America Forward. I'll be joining you in the trenches and lending whatever assistance I can to continue MAF's track record of success.
Kindest Regards,
Howard Kaloogian
Founder, Move America Forward
http://www.KaloogianForCongress.com
P.S. As promised, here are some of the accomplishments we've made through our work at Move America Forward by working together as a united team:
*We led the "You Don't Speak for Me, Cindy" caravan across the nation to Crawford, Texas. We stopped in more than one-dozen cities and rallied several thousand Americans to step up and make clear that Cindy Sheehan did NOT represent the views of most Americans. At the conclusion of our efforts more Americans said they looked at Ms. Sheehan in an unfavorable light than a favorable one.
*We followed up the "You Don't Speak for Me, Cindy" caravan with a national pro-troop bus tour that stopped in more than 20 American cities for pro-troop rallies... from San Francisco to Washington, D.C. The bus tour culminated in a big pro-troop rally in Washington, D.C. that was broadcast live for 4 1/2 hours by C-SPAN. We were treated to President Bush flying over in his helicopter and giving his supporters a wave.
*Move America Forward worked, in conjunction with RighTalk Radio, led the "Voices of Soldiers" Truth Tour - with Move America Forward's Co-Chairs (Howard Kaloogian & Melanie Morgan) and MAF Board Member Buzz Patterson leading a delegation of radio talk show hosts to Iraq. The talk show hosts interviewed thousands of soldiers, providing a forum for them to tell the American people about the accomplishments they are making in Operation Iraqi Freedom and the fight against terrorism.
*We collected and sent $2.8 Million worth of pharmaceutical supplies to Afghanistan & Iraq.
*Move America Forward was the leading organization to publicly speak out against Michael Moore's Fahrenheit 9/11 - exposing it as an Anti-American propaganda piece filled with countless inaccuracies and misrepresentations. It was NO documentary.
*Exposed the partnership between Moore's "Fahrenheit 9/11" distribution companies and the terrorist group, Hezbollah, which worked to help make sure the Anti-American film was seen throughout the Middle East.
*We've broadcast more than one dozen television and radio commercials throughout the nation advocating support for our troops and the fight against terrorism . We have been speaking out against the United Nations for their fiscal corruption and unwillingness to stand up to terrorism. More than 100 million Americans have seen our ads.
*Started a petition drive to kick the UN out of the USA -- we've collected approximately 100,000 signatures to date. They need a wake-up call that Americans are not going to keep paying for an organization that doesn't even hide its anti-Americanism.
*We've been a leading voice speaking out against the United Nations' "Oil for Food" scam, the abuse and sexual assault of children by U.N. workers, and the failure of the U.N. to fight the terrorist organizations that threaten freedom-loving nations around the globe.
*Organized the largest network of pro-troops rallies, "Believe in Freedom -- 9/11 We Will Never Forget" on the anniversary of the 9/11 attacks. The rallies were held in cities throughout the country with the largest events taking place in New York City, San Francisco, Sacramento, Indianapolis and San Diego.
*After being approached by the Walt Disney Corporation, we conducted a high-profile screening of Disney's "America's Heart & Soul" -- a pro-American alternative to Moore's hate-filled diatribe. Political leaders, community leaders, members of the public and news media attended this by-invitation-only event.
*Launched the "Coffee for Our Troops" program in partnership with deluxe coffee roaster, Cornerstone Coffee. To date we've sent over 6 tons of premium fresh ground coffee to our troops serving in Iraq & Afghanistan. The coffee has been sent Priority Mail to ensure maximum freshness. We have since sent thousands of boxes of cookies to our troops to go along with that coffee!
*We've worked with U.S. Central Command and our troops serving in Iraq & Afghanistan to launch the "A call to home" program, where active duty military personnel currently serving in Iraq call radio stations telling the truth of what is really going on and how successful the military has been in Iraq and Afghanistan - news you will never find in the mainstream media.
*Partnered with 8-year old Adam Johns of Roseville, California to launch "Operation Fuzzy Wuzzy" -- we collected over 5000 teddy bears from Americans and then sent them to the children who survived the horrific terrorist attack at the school in Beslan, Russia.
*Rallied hundreds of thousands of Americans to register their support for pro-American patriot, John Bolton, to serve as the U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations. We took Senators to task for holding up his nomination while vital American interests were being unattended at the UN.
At the end of the day, Move America Forward has become the fastest growing conservative organization in America today. We are quite proud of our efforts to marshal conservatives to stand up for America and the military men and women who are fighting for our freedom and liberty. Thank you all very much.

I am happy to hear this -- well, sort of. I would rather see him run for Senator and beat Boxer or Feinstein.
But in the meantime, I am glad he is running for Congress.

Hoorah! The very issues the GOP should have been focusing on since 9-11. Go Howard!!

My guess is that Cunningham decided not to run again, because of the investigation of some alleged impropriety for selling his house at an alleged inflated price to a contractor. I don't recall the details.

I know all that. I was wondering if there was any updates to the story. They just can't help themselves, can they? Duke Cunningham...what a disappointment.

I am giving him the benefit of the doubt.
But just allegations are enough, to keep people from running.
These are the Dems latest and most effective tactics. They can't win in elections, so they accuse the Republicans of everything under the sun, hoping something will stick.
