Officially, the North Atlantic Tropical Season lasts through November 30th.

Whill activity gradually declines through October there's nothing magical about October 15th. There have been Category 5 hurricanes after October 15th, and US hurricane hits after October 15th.

Here's something about Hurricane Lenny in 1999. Became a hurricane Nov. 14

He's simply mistaken. The Official Atlantic Tropical season lasts through November 30th. Nothing official happens October 15.

He's simply mistaken.

Maybe so, but the Committee-That-Names-Tropical-Storms has spoken. They are going home.

Lists are made well in advance. Not sure what you mean by this.

They have the whole Greek alphabet ahead of them...but I am impressed that we will probably have a W storm this year. The question is will we have an Alpha?

Wonder what they were trying to communicate? Perhaps the end of the peak time of hurricane formation?

Probably...but I'd have to go digging in the old storm info to find it...

It's probably that the odds of tropical storm formation are reduced significantly after Oct 15.

That's true. We have passed the peak..but there have been some very strong storms in November, so it's not time to pack away the plywood and duck tape quite yet...

In 30 years of living in the Florida Keys, we've been hit with a number of late October and November storms.

Kate and Irene are two that come to mind.
