"Our capital, topped with Lady Liberty, is taller than D.C.'s.

Yee haw! Don't mess with Texas!"

Just remember, that Lady Liberty was placed on top of our capitol with her backside pointed to Washington. Any Texan worth his saddlebags will know the reasoning behind that.....

Yeeeeeeeeeee Haaaaaaaaaaaa!!

I've got a TX shaped blue bonnet cutting board and a TX shaped corn bread pan, both presents from the inlaws.

By federal law, Texas is the only state in the U.S. that can fly its flag at the same height as the U.S. flag. Think about that for a second. You fly the Stars and Stripes at 20 feet in Maryland, California, or Maine and your state flag, whatever it is, goes at 17 feet. You fly the Stars and Stripes in front of Pine Tree High in Longview or anyplace else at 20 feet, the Lone Star flies at the same height - 20 feet. Do you know why? Because it is the only state that was a republic before it became a state.

The writer did fairly well until his bragging went a bit overboard.... Bet he can't cite the Federal Law that is mentioned as it doesn't exist. All states fly their flag level with the US Flag when flown on seperate poles side by side.

And the part about splitting into five states any time they want to..... Well true if'n Texas can meet the Constitutional requirements for doing so....

Thanks for the ping. My family was here when Texas was born, and I can't imagine not being a Texan. My father always cautioned his daughters from marrying a non-Texan.

But for some reason, your list of great Texans did not include Ann Richards and Sheila Jackson Lee.

Every beauty has a wart somewhere. Ronnie Earle wasn't mentioned either and I had just as soon forget LBJ.

A little known fact about the TX Government code:

Acityy in Tx cannot be incorporated unless it has the following

A Baptist Church
An Ice House with Lone star and Shiner Bock
And most importantly, a Dairy Queen

Texas has NO income tax!

Texas strongly supports gun rights!

And Texas has the most beautiful women in the world.

For those who dispute the last item, I would point out that two out of three isn't bad.

OK this isn't true, but we're still the best state in the best country in the world.

I will repeat something I've posted before. I've traveled half the world and lived in five states and six countries. If you are overseas and ask an American where he is from 95% of the time they will say American or the United States. The 5% who do not will say New York (meaning the city) or California. If they are Texan however, 99% will say TEXAS.

Even barefoot kids on the Masai Mara know where Texas is!
