$50 million lawsuit is being filed against Hoboken and its police department by the parents of a 16-year-old boy who drowned in the Hudson River shortly after escaping from Hoboken Police Headquarters.

"He was in the custody of the police department, he was a juvenile and it was their responsibility to maintain his safety and under very suspicious and nefarious circumstances he allegedly escaped and drowned in the Hudson River," attorney Robert Bianchi said.

"To this day, a year later, no one from law enforcement has had the courtesy to contact the mother or her attorney to let them know the results of the investigation, which is simply disgusting," the attorney said.

the lesson here is unless you really really want to win a darwin award dont escape from jail and jump in ariver with dangerous riptides

of course the other lesson is if anyone dies anywhere near the police you can get extremely rich becasue 11 years after the contract with america the repubs still have not passed any type of meaningful tort reforms so everyone is waiting in line for thier chance to hit it big at the lawsuit lottery

How convenient of the parents to forget the fact that their son was a convicted criminal in the act of committing yet another crime. Anything for a buck.AWB

i guess he wasn't cuffed though. they should also sue the fence manufacturer since it was obviously substandard height...also the pier builder, because had it been of a more suitable length, he could have jumped cleanly to the other side...

so it's the cops fault that your son is a criminal and escaped from custody.
i do find it odd that he surrendered himself to the police and the escaped immediately after the fact.
btw - my cousin is a detective on the HPD.
