"Briles said officials listed a handful of charges he would face, including impeding a federal investigation. Still, no one read him his rights, he said."

A supposedly drunk 64 year old retired school teacher being arreste dor public intoxication is a "federal investigation"? Wow, those federal officers must be awfully bored....

This just gets uglier and uglier. I have posted here several times to not pre-judge the officers without more real evidence - particularly pre-video. But the other officers involved, including an FBI agent and now a Customs agent - Something is terribly awry here. And as the old man was released quickly from jail without a huge bond, I would wager that there were no federal charges against him....

Now - did these two guys do more than they admit - dunno. But I do wonder about the other officers involved, as I don't recall alcohol consumption being a federal crime (at least since prohibition...), and simply stating that you need to tell somebody about what you have witnessed....

Something stinks, and it's not the horse dung from the mounted cops.

The fact there's an FBI and Customs agent involved, with the proximate cause the behavior of a 64 year old local property owner suggests to me that:

1. The 64 year old had managed to walk into a situation he wasn't supposed to see (and having familiarity with the area he certainly saw it),

2. Everything worth stealing has not yet been stolen in New Orleans.

After watching the "long version" of the news video taken at the scene, things only look worse for the cops in this one.

It's not the horse dung that reeks, it's the dung from the mouths of the New Orleans 'law enforcement' officers involved in this disgraceful incident. Police brutality against Blacks in the South isn't exactly a new phenomenon, but then again, police brutality is becoming fashionable everywhere these days.

The Feds were around because FEMA is there and it's been declard a national (federal) disaster area; and I'm supposing that anyone they deem to be 'interfering' with their work is subject to federal arrest. But what truly mystifies me is that even though there are numerous incidents of police brutality captured on videotape over the past few years, there are many who continue to insist they are 'isolated incidences', and it's 'only a few bad apples', or that 'the videotape doesn't show the whole story', etc.

Maybe some of these people just happen to like what they see on videotape, and others don't want to believe it, so they deny even what they see with their own eyes.

And I don't recall "Walking While Intoxicated or Walking Under the Influence" being any crime Federal or State.

NOPD Legal adviser yesterday on FOX "Officers were protecting the man from being injured by stumbling into the path of a car." HUH??? Oh I suppose beating a 64 yr. old man senseless should be considered their way of protecting the citizenry from harm. Sorry, but Louisiana and especially NO. have a long standing reputation for police corruption.

I've heard the horror stories for decades of out-of-staters being targeted and falsely charged with outrageous fines being imposed by a very corrupt police force.
