n the waning days of a record season, a helicopter buzzes treetops here in a remote corner of the "Emerald Triangle," redwood country notorious as the USA's premier producer of marijuana. (Photo gallery: Rooting out pot hot spots)
State narcotics officers from CAMP - Campaign Against Marijuana Planting - are searching for "gardens" to eradicate and find six on a warm, cloudless day.
They strap onto a 150-foot cable dangling from the chopper, drop into the pot patches, hack down the plants and bundle them for the chopper to haul back to a landing zone.

Maybe it would be a much better use of resources if they would start trying to keep up with illegal aliens on the border rather than illegal plants.

Spraying the plants with diesel from a helicopter is faster, cheaper and more effective.

Feds reaping what they sow by not securing the borders.
Most of the pot grown is from Mexican drug cartels.

Not that I would be aware of such things, but I er um have a friend, yea, thats it, that indicates it will be a bad crop much for the same reason it is a bad wine crop, there was not enough sunshine early in the year and it got hot towards the end. Having said that Mendocino County produces some awesome stuff. It is not for no reason the largest living thing on earth is a redwood tree in that county.

30 years plus later and still no progress. Nixon started the War on Drugs, and we've gone nowhere. Can we just give it up?

I think it would be funny if some people started acting as a Johnny "Marijuanaseed" and just started planting it everywhere and never coming back to cultivate. Hopefully that would make it effectively impossible for the government to get rid of and they'd find something better to do.

Funny this problem didn't exist before the racist prohibition laws were passed in the 1930s.

The redwood trees are the tallest living things on Earth. The largest living things are Sequoia trees.

It's an easy to grow plant. The feds should worry about the big growers who are doing it for profit and leave the little guy alone with his two or three plants.

Actually no! Most california pot is sensimillia (seedless)and very heady and hallucinagenic while Mexican tends to be Cannibis Sativa and more of a down type body high. Were you to ask me how I know, I would respond..."I read a lot". ;-)

The wildlife will avoid the nasty smelling diesel till it weathers off. Some soft plants may have dieback but will recover and tree leaves may fall off but will grow back as diesel spray will not kill trees.

Sounds good to me! Seriously, it is a big waste of resources and if it were legalized, I think that would reduce some of the illegals also, IMHO.

oops, I hadn't realized the the Sequoia is also sometimes referred to as a "Coast Redwood" or "California Redwood." I guess it you use that terminology then the largest living thing would indeed be a redwood.

Can we just give it up?Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again, and expecting different results.
