A San Leandro police officer allegedly killed by a convicted methamphetamine user died of multiple gunshot wounds, including a shot to the head, a forensic pathologist testified Wednesday.

Officer Nels "Dan" Niemi, 42, was shot in the head, chest and leg on July 25 by Irving Ramirez, 23, according to Alameda County District Attorney Tom Orloff, who is prosecuting the case and questioned the doctor at a hearing to determine whether Ramirez will be tried for murder.

Ramirez, who was on probation, fired six shots from a 10mm semiautomatic weapon to prevent the officer from learning that he was carrying two guns and drugs, authorities said.

Niemi was shot as he prepared to run Ramirez's name on the police radio while checking out a noise complaint near Doolittle Drive and Belvedere Avenue, police said.

Of the six shots, one went through Niemi's head and neck, another went through his bullet-resistant vest and into his chest, another pierced the vest but didn't enter his body, two hit him in the abdomen, and another entered his leg and lodged in his lower back, Dr. Thomas Rogers testified.

An autopsy revealed powder burns on the right side of Niemi's head, indicating that he had been shot at close range, according to Rogers.

While questioning Rogers in an Oakland courtroom, Orloff outlined a chilling scenario that he said probably had led to the death of Niemi, a father and husband who had been an officer for three years after leaving his job in the computer industry.

"Is the shot sufficient to knock a person down?" the district attorney asked Rogers, referring to the gunshot to the officer's head.

Rogers replied affirmatively. Orloff then asked, "If a person was knocked down to the ground, would all the other gunshot wounds be consistent with someone standing

Don't know that there should be such a thing as probation.

The story contains a picture of the soulless creep, scowling at the camera, and one of Niemi, taken from a group of cops where he's smiling.

Kind of sums it up. Good and Evil. Meanwhile Amnesty International and the Atheist Criminal Lovers Union say it's wrong to execute creeps like this, and the 180 juvies that are in for life no parole, cause they did crimes like this but are too young to be put to sleep by the prison vet, ought to be let out.

Safe bet that none of the ACLU lawyers lives where these cretins ply their drug trade. Imagine, being 23 and having enough of a record that you'll kill a cop to try to stay out of jail.

I think this creep was US-born, too, which shows that we DO have people that will do the jobs that Mexican immigrants come here to do...
