If women would quit opening up their legs to every guy that walked by then they would have much more power in choosing men with quality and family values.

Well, yes, but it won't work unless all women close their legs. As long as a lot of women are willing to have sex without marriage, the nice women who say "No" will hear their dates say "Bye," in response.

A hundred years ago almost all women said "No" until they had a ring. If a man wanted to have regular sex, he had to get married. His only alternative would be to pay for sex, which meant he stood a good chance of contracting incurable syphilis, with certain insanity and death. If he wanted his own house, a decent lifestyle, AND regular sex, he got married. Consequently the average man got married early.

Today it's different. Women stopped saying "Not until we're married" or "Not until we're engaged" in the 1960s. As long as there's all that available sex out there, men have no motivation to get married. And the woman who says no may find herself alone for good. So abstaining is not going to work as a way of luring men back to marriage until everyone agrees to it, which would require a return to Judeo-Christian values large segments of our society have pretty much abandoned.

Let's not forget, a man's career would be advanced by having a wife and kids to support. If a boss was deciding between two applicants, the married guy would get it. Families were there to help a young couple out. In my family, they'd have a house-raising, a barn raising (usually in the opposite order), and every new couple got a goat.

Now, not only does a man pay no price for sex, he pays no price economically. In the old days, a guy who could provide for a family, who choose not to be married was weird or even considered sinful by some. Society, in general, has taken ALL the pressures off young men to grow up.

I take that back. Society has actually made it a negative for a man to settle down. Young men are bombarded with horror stories about divorce and married men are universally portrayed as dumb fat jerks who's wives have to carefully direct and manage. The message is clear. If you are dumb enough to get married you will pay a heavy price.

I hear you but I totally disagree. Many years ago I would have agreed with you. However the truth is that there are people today who do hold out until they are married and they do get married. Just from watching these people go through life I would say on the whole that they are happier with life than everyone else.

I have news for the world, which I first heard from my minister...sex is no reason to get married. Ask your own about the jar of jellybeans, sometime. Why does this writer date men she views as immature?

Not only abandoned, but, the Liberals/Feminists/Gays/Artiest are doing their best to make sure it is taken completely out of our society, and are making sure it does not return.
Society as a whole is going down the slippery slope, and it's not just relationships ( i.e.: husband & wife, boyfriend&girlfriend ) it's society as a whole.
People are becoming more rude, and inconsiderate towards each other :
For example:
1 # Driving on the road were people cut you off and you almost have a accident.
2 # People not yielding when they are suppose to yield for traffic lights, signs, or other cars.
3 # People tailgating other cars either because they are in a hurry or for a power trip to intimidate the other driver ( and all of us can see examples of that ).
4 # At the super market were we see people hogging up the store aisles with their shopping carts, and won't leave enough room for other shoppers to get by.
5 # People running or rushing to get in the check out line before you do ( even though, they are farther away from the check out line, and you were there first ).
6 # 1 or 3 people rushing, or fighting over ( last sale item that is on sale in the store ) a on sale item.
7 # as your in the parking lot, and someone cuts infront of you to get a parking spot ( even though, you were there before they got there ).
There are many examples in society were we see people becoming more and more rude towards each other.
There is no sense of " Civility " in our society anymore, people showing respect and consideration towards others, now, we have people being rude.
Getting back to relationships between men and woman, in todays society, the lines between what defines the attitudes of a man, and behaviors, and what defines the attitudes of a woman, and behaviors are being blurred.
The days of when " Men were men " and " Women were women " are coming to a close.
Remember that song at the beginning of that show back in the 70s ALL IN THE FAMILY ? ( Those were the days ).
In that song it said, " didn't need no welfare state, everyone pulls his weight " ..... " women were women, and men were men " .
The problems that we see are not just about relationships between husband and wife, boyfriend and girlfriend, but, society as whole, society has broken down, the breakdown of society.

Not in my experience. I made it quite clear to all and sundry that I had no interest in sex outside of marriage; still had more than one opportunity to get married. Possibly because my taste runs to computer geeks rather than jocks. ;)

What I have no patience with is the guys who think they get to play the field, but when they decide to settle down they want a virgin. Don't know about now, but when I was dating in the '80's that was still an issue. Ironically, most of the non-Christian guys I dated were virgins; it was the Crhstian guys pushing that particular double standard. Sad commentary on the church, IMHO.

Huh - your premise assumes that men dont value women with virtue - you couldnt be more wrong. Men may want to have sex with the slut but they want to marry a women who is virtuous and chaste. Sure some may pass on the women who have virtue but so what, do women really want the kind of guy who is going to use them? If so they get what they deserve and today many of them deserve to be treated like meat - bought, sold and used - they are no different than a used car and the older they get the less value they have. Women who pride themselves on quality however are more appreciated by their mate and considered like a classic car whos value always is increasing. Sorry ladies for the analogy.
