Get a clue: the Chechens are as related to the Tatars as the British are related to the Assyrians: they're both Christian and the Chechens and Tatars are both Muslim. The Chechens come from the Caucus mountains, the Tatars from Mongolia. Welcome to your clue.

For at least the last thousand years Chechens have had many similarities to the Sicilians; a clannish, vendetta-based society which has long been involved in smuggling and crime. The Pankisi Gorge, now in north Georgia, has always been crucial to this trade. Though, clearly, 'crime' is defined by the laws of states and empires. The Chechens have for a long time lived on the edge of many big empires - Greece, Rome, Persia, the Baghdad Caliphate, Byzantium, the Mongol and Ottoman empires - and Russia. Hence the smuggling! It's an ancient tradition, partly fuelled by rivalry between Chechen families. Chechnya, in itself, is not a prosperous place, because of climate, mountains and lack of valuable resources, so the criminality has been a way of increasing the wealth of the Chechens. Or better yet, read this site, seems the Chechens claim to have existed in those mountains since the bronze age...only a few years before the Tatars arrived in the 12th centuary.
This name is not accidental. This term was used in Spanish history to denote recapture of Spanish lands previously conquered by Arabs. In our case the population of Ichkeria could be viewed as return by Vainakhs of their original territories, which belonged to them from the bronze ages. For a little more than a century and a half these lands were largely inhabited by Turk tribes, whose traces remained in the names of the region. The Vainakhs, of course, did not wipe out the former masters of these lands. The mountaineers never waged such ruthless wars. Familial lineages of some Ichkeri are traceable to the progenitors of Turk origin. There are even names of Avari origin and they are traceable for 2-3 generations. Naturally the process of assimilation of the remnants of the previous population was limited to just one or two decades. The vast majority of original names has Vainakh roots. At the end of the XIV and the beginning of the XV centuries with the departure of Tamerlans army, Vainakhs from the mountainous communities of Chaberloi , Nashkhoi and other places, moved into semi-devastated Ichkeria. The Chechen lore relate the whole process of the regions population in great detail and with accuracy.

Ooooh, now please disprove what the Chechens themselves say about themselves and show how they only arrived in the area 800 years ago instead of the 3,000+ that they and archeology claim. Or do you claim the Tatars (which is a misnomer, since no Tatar ever left Mongolia, where Chengus Khan exterminated the lot of them for the murder of his father) who were/are in truth just Mongols, arrived in 100 AD vs 1200 AD?

The Chechians have served notice to Russia and to the world that they are not worthy of respect or to live among civilized society. Not after Beslan.that bears repeating in my book.
Why am I on Russia's side (so to speak) and our US government seems to favor the Chechen's? A peculiar feeling.

But...but...bu...HOW, WHY...THIS IS A RELIGION OF PEACE!!! Tut, tut. You didn't mention that is-slime is also the religion of LOVE and Respect for Women!
You know what that means, right? They're going to have to declare another jihad.
No doubt the brave is-slime-ich warriors will again attack defenseless women and children again. In order to demonstrate their courage, of course.

Thanks for posting this. If only half of it is true, we should all fall to our knees to thank God that we live in America. Well, just maybe we should do that anyway. :o)
