He apparently did yell "no catch" because something caused Piersynski to wheel around and head to first. He also never did signal out. He signaled Strike (Clenched fist), then pointed to first (no catch), the the Clenched fist again (Resignalling the strike) -- HE never PUMPED the fist BACK or DOWN -- that is the OUT CALL.

Look at the pictures Hole in one posted, Piersynski is wheeling around to look at the umpire as the catcher runs off -- meaning 1. HE never heard OUT! and 2. He obviously heard and/or saw something else (most likely NO CATCH!)

Yep! The batter never did swing at the pitch either!!
