The conservative crack up (Newsweak's Fineman)
Newsweek ^ | 10/12/05 | Howard Fineman

Posted on 10/12/2005 1:29:58 PM PDT by frankjr

President George W. Bush may have no military exit strategy for Iraq, but the “neocons” who convinced him to go to war there have developed one of their own — a political one: Blame the Administration.

Their neo-Wilsonian theory is correct, they insist, but the execution was botched by a Bush team that has turned out to be incompetent, crony-filled, corrupt, unimaginative and weak over a wide range of issues.

The flight of the neocons — just read a recent Weekly Standard to see what I am talking about — is one of only many indications that the long-predicted “conservative crackup” is at hand.

Fine-man is anything but! The picture he paints makes it seem worse for conservatives than it was for Clinton in his days of impeachment. All I can say is, reports of our death have been greatly exaggerated!

And how does this know-nothing qualify as the chief political correspondent for anything?

The “movement” – that began 50 years ago with the founding of Bill Buckley’s National Review; that had its coming of age in the Reagan Years; that reached its zenith with Bush’s victory in 2000 — is falling apart at the seams

Wishful thinking passing as insight - ROFLMAO!

There is little difference (except in the use of words found only in a Thesaurus) between the spite the liberal {socialist/communist] Jews have for the Neocon Jews and the communist, tribal blacks have for the independent, self-sufficient blacks.

Replace Fineman for Jesse Jackson and Neocon for Clarence Thomas and the picture is clear.

Howie is another one of those gutter rats.

Iraq is looking better every week.

Bush will be regarded as another Churchill when the history of this period is written.

None of the gutter rats liked Reagan either....but now he is admired by all.

I knew Reagan was great when I first heard his acceptance speech at the 1980 Republican Convention..

Nobody can downplay Bush's great speech before Congress and the nation on Sept. 20, 2001.

America is a great nation.....

All we need is a great leader to change the world.

The previous occupant at 1600 Pennsylvannia Avenue was preoccupied with changing his skivvies and lost his chance to change the world.

The predicted conservative crack up exists mainly in Fineman's imagination. Fineman doesn't understand that ALL conservatives have a deep-seated animus towards the liberal style of governance.

About Pres. Bush's governance, that is a different story entirely. I think the president has steadily aliented his loyal base over his preferential treatment of illegals and the cronyism in the recent SCOTUS nomination.

I think Howard is a tad off base here.

I admit, I am pro Miers. However, I am not passionate about Miers and if she is thrown overboard, which I expect, I do not think it will be of any lasting consequence. If she is confirmed, that will be fine as well.

Iraq will be stabilize.

I guess the wildcard is the economy.

In 1973, Karl Rove met George W. Bush, and became the R2D2 and Luke Skywalker of Republican politics.

Um, Howie, you are thinking of Obi Wan Kanobi, not the robot R2D2.

If Howard cannot get a simple Star Wars analogy correct, he is surely not going to understand conservatives, which are to him a galaxy far far away.

Howie doesn't understand that conservatives from all walks of life will move mountains to defeat Hillary in 2008,even if she's running against a rino.We might have our differences but the bottom line remains the same.Liberals must be driven into the ground and pounded into dust.

Is this before or after he tried to Flush a Koran down the toilet for his buddy Mike?

THE FORMER FBI DIRECTOR BLASTS CLINTON AND NEWSWEEK BURIES IT.

IT'S GOOD TO SEE THEY STILL KNOW THEIR LIMITED AND DWINDLING AUDIENCE.

I agree with your view, but I have seen far too many people at FR say they'd sit at home or vote for Hillary if McCain is the nominee... that is worrisome.
If you have issues with Bush's SC choices, just think of Hillary's...

Good ol' Howie knows nothing about the conservative movement or conservatives in general. Like his brethren in the MSM Fineman lives in a vacuum and gets his conservative insight from individuals like as Tucker Carlson and David Brooks. He is the epitome of a metrosexual and the antithesis of an average American man. This is nothing more than wishful thinking under the guise of a "journalistic piece"

Honestly, Mr. Fineman, you're getting excited about nothing more than Conservatism making the transition from 98-pound weakling to the power that dominates the whole beach.

That the right is conducting a vigorous intramural debate over important questions of policy and ideology is to be expected, now that your side has been escorted to a closet in the next room so that it doesn't drool on the carpet.

If you want to take our discussing, in public, which way to drive the car now that we've got the keys, well, knock yourself out. Lord knows you don't have much to cheer you up these days.

Oh, and I thought the Koran story was funny.
