"I'm waiting for the hearings, myself. It would be helfpful to all involved if the people judging her incompetent and substandard would shut their fat gaping maws and wait until they have some actual evidence of intent."

Apparently you missed the 'no personal attacks' right under the 'post' button.

Tell me, what exactly are you going to learn at the "I'm sorry I can't answer that question since the issue may come before me on the supreme court" confirmation hearings?

That senators can ask 5 minute 'questions' in order to get on the local news back home?

Don't worry, I have it on good authority that Larry Tribe is willing to take one for the team and put his neck on the nominating chopping block should Stevens retire.

If the GOP doesn't have any power with the presidency, the House, and a 55-44 Senate, what good are they?

GWB is starting to look like Tessio at the end of the Godfather 1 on this issue.

Can you get me off for old times sake, Karl? Can't do it, Georgie...

Why dont you post the entire poll--

LOL........ why don't you......

The point is 54% are favorable and only 9% are negative....

54 + 9 = 63 [hummmm. seems like 37 not accounted for to me]

Why dont you post the entire poll-- you purposefully left out the "dont know" to support your position.

Misrepresentation is a tool of the scoundrel. I read the poll for myself, so knew. Thanks for posting the data here for the record.

yes, if miers was the "last resort" (that's the spin now, when she used to be the 'best' he could find), what is he going to do with another opening? Give miers two votes?

Why not just admit, sinkspur, you'd love to see another Souter on the court and are hoping Miers is it?

No, the point is that there is ONLY 54% favorable. And that's supposed to be among the people who put bush in office!

"1) Owens is a team player who slipped up. - "Then why is she leaking info to the press against the White House and now going through friends of friends to get the message out? Doesn't sound like a team player to me."

After watching the House of card crumbling down on Miers, maybe she had second thoughts and became embarrassed to have compromised on her principle and lie about her true intentions.

) The White House had a plan to implant a moderate SC nominee. - "The confirmation hearings will shed a light on that to me, not a FR poster. All signs show that she is a very conservative woman.

"All signs"?? Like her friendship with Dubya? OR the "sign" that she's a "Christian"? There aren't nearly nearly enough "signs" that she'll vote "conservatively." Sorry.

3) Dobson was used by the White House - "Dobson put his two cents in without being prepared. It was his interview with Brit Hume that set off the Dobson firestorm. Unless you believe Brit was set up or helped set up Dobson?"

Dobson believed what he was told. Brit was merely doing his job.

4) The White House plan of dis-information was busted. - "Disinformation is where it has always been - the media. As I stated earlier, NRO reported before the Miers nomination that their sources said Owens took her name out of contention. Are their sources correct now or then? They report rumors, you decide."

The media had nothing to do with spinning this. The White House set the table beforehand, never expecting the firestorm of dissent.

Surely you don't believe they spontaneously chose Miers at a whim? Assume this has been planned for some time.

And there is cannon fodder in the wings. Myers (9th Circuit), Boyle, Haynes, Kavanaugh, Saad. One of those surely would trigger a confrontation.

Myers and Saad are out. They were rejected as part of the Gang of 14 negotiations. Source

Make a list of the top 100 candidates for the job based on proven history of being the 'strict constructionists' bush promised.

There would be no one on the list...including the justices already sitting on the court.

the WH was told by members of the gang of 14 on BOTH sides of the aisle that Owens and Brown would be filibustered

If this were true, why isn't the Whitehouse conveying that message to conservatives?

Because if it's true, expressing that as a reason directly exposes the nomination as a compromise away from "the best" that could be had on a majority consent.

The GOP is acquiescing by silence, to a 60 vote hurdle erected by anti-constitutional activists. It ratifies the filibuster as appropriate.

[ This may be moot, even if true. I believe I read recently that the WH was told by members of the gang of 14 on BOTH sides of the aisle that Owens and Brown would be filibustered. If we have a beef, it is with the gang of 14...and they give cover to the partisans on both sides with their special interest supporters. ]

Cool take them on.. Let there be blood in the aisles instead of blood on the steets.. All we need is a president thats not a coward.. The bully pulpit could be easily used to hammar the gang of 14 into the congressional rug.. but it would take a president that will not Unite with the first bully to try to mug him.. but then we have a "Unite'er not a Divide'er" as president.. threaten him and he will unite with you..

Theres a word for that.. and its not "Unite'er".. Neville Chamberlain was also a Unite'er.. First, gut shuck the RINOs and then lynch Sandy Burgular as openers.. indite or investigate Hillarys campaign fraud with Peter Paul and scare ther hell out of congressional democrats with a national voter fraud investigation accross the board..

Make the last three years of his presidency a jihad against fraud of any kind, especially voter fraud.. with a reward for federal government employees and contractors and voluteers(polls) that will report it..

I do dream a lot.. LoL.. Unless the president most of congress are complicit in those activitys in some way.. All kinds of fraud just might have become what politics has universally become.. {and they are ALL afraid WE will find out}

If Rove is to be believed, then we're stuck with the unqualified female crony at the end of quota list of female candidates. Rather than expanding the list or turning to -- my God -- a male that was qualified with a proven track record of originalism, we're stuck with Miers.

I guess you're making the case for incompetence?
