"This letter is incredible!"

Good Points!

We should really be patting our troops in Afghanistan on the backs! They have obviously done an incredible job in isolating the 'kingpins' and rendering the Taliban impotent! If you read between Zarahiri's lines, you will find a 'zealot/beast' in deep inner conflict, isolation and now second guessing his own aims and ambitions.
In one part of the diatribe, while mentioning the end goal(the caliphate), he includes the phrase: "If it is possible". This is not a man with confidence in anything at this point! He is like the dying 'Fisher King' of myth, to put it into 'archetypal' jargon. Here he is, the 'king' of old...sucking up to the 'new' rebel rouser for approval!! It is really quite astonishing to read. He sounds beaten, old and irrelevant and he knows it on some inner psychic shock wave!

He is watching his 'kingdom' crumble before it was ever established. Also interesting,is his narcissism and personal power drive(when he mentions the 'spoils of war') coupled with a constant apology to Allah, as if seeking Allah's approval at every turn and not quite sure he is gonna get it..lol. He ends up sounding helpless and weak, much like he must have felt while in jail in Egypt for all of those years before he hooked up with OBL.
In other words, his psyche is a mess...lol, but we already knew that.

Sorry for the long post. I hope I have not bored you. I like psychological digs on the enemy..so please forgive me.

GOD BLESS OUR TROOPS & GOD BLESS AMERICA!!

Here is my take on zawahiri's letter with some obligatory digs at the left when similarities in position are evident.

"In the name of God, praise be to God, and praise and blessings be upon the Messenger of God, his family, his Companions, and all those who follow him."

I find this to be normal Muslim bluster that a 'to whom it may concern' would cover.

"The gracious brother/Abu Musab, God protect him and watch over him, may His religion, and His Book and the Sunna of His Prophet @ aid him, I ask the Almighty that he bless him, us, and all Muslims, with His divine aid, His clear victory,"

I find this to be a hyped little pep talk to offset the criticism that is forthcoming and an attempt to regain standing for requests made also.

"and His release from suffering be close at hand. Likewise, I ask the Almighty to gather us as He sees fit from the glory of this world and the prize of the hereafter."

Zarqawi is suffering? G O O D!!! I find the second phrase to be rationalization and glorification of the terrorists we KILL.

"1-Dear brother, God Almighty knows how much I miss meeting with you, how much I long to join you in your historic battle against the greatest of criminals and apostates in the heart of the Islamic world, the field where epic and major battles in the history of Islam were fought. I think that if I could find a way to you, I would not delay a day, God willing."

First I see regret, then bluster, then an admission the he is paralyzed either by fear or by mechanics of our actions (prolly both). He cannot move because he is afraid to take the chance of being captured or maybe 'BY the grace of allah taken from the glory of this world'. I guess Allah isn't willing.

"2-My dear brother, we are following your news, despite the difficulty and hardship. We received your last published message sent to Sheikh Usama Bin Ladin, God save him. Likewise, I made sure in my last speech-that Aljazeera broadcast Saturday, 11 Jumadi I, 1426h, 18 June 2005-to mention you, send you greetings, and show support and thanks for the heroic acts you are performing in defense of Islam and the Muslims, but I do not know what Aljazeera broadcast. Did this part appear or not? I will try to attach the full speech with this message, conditions permitting"

I notice first that he says he is following news but in the same breath he mentions that he doesn't know what al jiz broadcast. ( HMMMMMMM ) I take particular interest in the 'save him" part of the statement about Osama, seems reports of sickness may indeed hold merit. I like the 'conditions permitting' part.....goes back to the paralyzed thing. 'The heoric acts defending muslims'....well umm later on he talks about killing muslims and the damage it does...it doesnt fit. I love it, he sounds more and more like a democrat with every word. :)~

"3-I want to reassure you about our situation. The summer started hot with operations escalating in Afghanistan. The enemy struck a blow against us with the arrest of Abu al-Faraj, may God break his bonds. However, no Arab brother was arrested because of him. The brothers tried-and were successful to a great degree-to contain the fall of Abu al-Faraj as much as they could. "

First, I see more admissions of losses, then I see damage control about al libby's capture.

"However, the real danger comes from the agent Pakistani army that is carrying out operations in the tribal areas looking for mujahedeen."

Seems Mushariff's (Pakistan's) help is worth a bit more than Nancy Pelosi or Ted kennedy give it credit for. Looks to me as if he is Worried about this.

"4-I want to keep corresponding with you about the details of what is going on in dear Iraq, especially since we do not know the full truth as you know it. Therefore, I want you to explain to me your situation in a little detail, especially in regards to the political angle. I want you to express to me what is on your mind in regards to what is on my mind in the way of questions and inquiries."

Details, ummm I thought he was keeping up on news? There it is again. Then I see condusion....on your mind on my mind? I guess he wants to know if he has the authority ( in Zarqawi's eyes) to question zarqawi's actions.

"A-I want to be the first to congratulate you for what God has blessed you with in terms of fighting battle in the heart of the Islamic world, which was formerly the field for major battles in Islam's history, and what is now the place for the greatest battle of Islam in this era, and what will happen, according to what appeared in the Hadiths of the Messenger of God @ about the epic battles between Islam and atheism. It has always been my belief that the victory of Islam will never take place until a Muslim state is established in the manner of the Prophet in the heart of the Islamic world, specifically in the Levant, Egypt, and the neighboring states of the Peninsula and Iraq; however, the center would be in the Levant and Egypt. This is my opinion, which I do not preach as infallibile, but I have reviewed historical events and the behavior of the enemies of Islam themselves, and they did not establish Israel in this triangle surrounded by Egypt and Syria and overlooking the Hijaz except for their own interests."

I see the greates battle of islam as actually the greatest battle of AL QAEDA and JUST LIKE W SAID...it is in IRAQ. Thanks AZ for making W's point for him. Here he makes an error in premise. Israel was not formed to screw with islam. Israel was formed so that jewish people would have their homeland ( as it should be imho).

" As for the battles that are going on in the far-flung regions of the Islamic world, such as Chechnya, Afghanistan, Kashmir, and Bosnia, they are just the groundwork and the vanguard for the major battles which have begun in the heart of the Islamic world. We ask God that He send down his victory upon us that he promised to his faithful worshipers."

I see AZ attributing all these as battles in an over all war....a War On Terrorism MAYBE? A Global one maybe? Again I see him making W's point for him. The last sentence strikes me as questionihng the will of Allah....a what are you waiting for kinda sentiment. I love it.

"It is strange that the Arab nationalists also have, despite their avoidance of Islamic practice, come to comprehend the great importance of this province. It is like a bird whose wings are Egypt and Syria, and whose heart is Palestine. They have come to comprehend the goal of planting Israel in this region, and they are not misled in this, rather they have admitted their ignorance of the religious nature of this conflict."

HE slams muslims in his first sentence. Later he does that some more I will comment more then.

"What I mean is that God has blessed you and your brothers while many of the Muslim mujahedeen have longed for that blessing, and that is Jihad in the heart of the Islamic world. He has, in addition to that, granted you superiority over the idolatrous infidels, traitorous apostates, and those turncoat deviants."

Here I see AZ spouting lack of equality as a good thing coming straight from his "god". The next couple paragraphs continue this same foolishness. Onward then.

"B-Because of this, we are extremely concerned, as are the mujahedeen and all sincere Muslims, about your Jihad and your heroic acts until you reach its intended goal. You know well that purity of faith and the correct way of living are not connected necessarily to success in the field unless you take into consideration the reasons and practices which events are guided by. For the grandson of the Prophet Imam al Hussein Bin Ali }, the Leader of the Faithful Abdallah Bin al-Zubair }, Abdul Rahman Bin al-Ashath ~, and other great people, did not achieve their sought-after goal."

Here I see ends justifying them means questioned with example. Call them heroic acts but then question them? Sounds MORE like a democrat than before.

"C-If our intended goal in this age is the establishment of a caliphate in the manner of the Prophet and if we expect to establish its state predominantly-according to how it appears to us-in the heart of the Islamic world, then your efforts and sacrifices-God permitting-are a large step directly towards that goal."

IF? How is there any "if"? I see more confusion in this part.

"So we must think for a long time about our next steps and how we want to attain it, and it is my humble opinion that the Jihad in Iraq requires several incremental goals:

The first stage: Expel the Americans from Iraq."

Now this I find classic Democrat. A GREAT BIG "what" and ZERO "how". No explanation, no examples, no ideas, nothing at all. I love it. Did a Kerry or Kennedy speechwriter produce this for him or what?

"The second stage: Establish an Islamic authority or amirate, then develop it and support it until it achieves the level of a caliphate- over as much territory as you can to spread its power in Iraq, i.e., in Sunni areas, is in order to fill the void stemming from the departure of the Americans, immediately upon their exit and before un-Islamic forces attempt to fill this void, whether those whom the Americans will leave behind them, or those among the un-Islamic forces who will try to jump at taking power."

This is also democrat action here. This is what binny and crew tried to do in Afghanistan with the Taliban. Later on he speaks to how the Taliban was a miserable failure. Must be a "voted for it before voted against it" thing. Bailing out of Afghanistan and leaving it to its own devices in the late 80's is what AZ would love to see happen in Iraq. Democrats have long called for the very same thing.

" The third stage: Extend the jihad wave to the secular countries neighboring Iraq."

I hope a certain Eye Doctor, A newly liberated people by their own vote, and the ACLU all take note of that statement.

" The fourth stage: It may coincide with what came before: the clash with Israel, because Israel was established only to challenge any new Islamic entity."

I see more of his false premise here.

" My raising this idea-I don't claim that it's infallible-is only to stress something extremely important. And it is that the mujahedeen must not have their mission end with the expulsion of the Americans from Iraq, and then lay down their weapons, and silence the fighting zeal. We will return to having the secularists and traitors holding sway over us. Instead, their ongoing mission is to establish an Islamic state, and defend it, and for every generation to hand over the banner to the one after it until the Hour of Resurrection. "

Cindy Sheehan, Howard Dean and crew should take notice to this part. The war didn't start and doesn't end in Iraq and it would not have been avoided had we not went there.

"If the matter is thus, we must contemplate our affairs carefully, so that we are not robbed of the spoils, and our brothers did not die, so that others can reap the fruits of their labor."

100% PURE democrat Here. The drive is POWER and nothing more. Islam does not matter, the way the people live does not matter and the people that die do not matter UNLESS they get the power they seek. Sad it is.

"D-If we look at the two short-term goals, which are removing the Americans and establishing an Islamic amirate in Iraq, or a caliphate if possible, then, we will see that the strongest weapon which the mujahedeen enjoy - after the help and granting of success by God - is popular support from the Muslim masses in Iraq, and the surrounding Muslim countries"

In this part he fronts the idea that the vast majority of muslims WANT what it is he spouts. Were that REALLY so, then they would support the VOTE. Like Democrats, what he Claims and the reality of the peoples' choice are two very different things.

"So, we must maintain this support as best we can, and we should strive to increase it, on the condition that striving for that support does not lead to any concession in the laws of the Sharia."

AZ is the one pondering IMPOSING sharia on all people Yet Dems and loony tune lefties want to claim it is America that Imposes.....Can it be any more clear than from this man himself? When will these folks wake up and smell the coffee?????

" ......then popular support would be a decisive factor between victory and defeat."

Ummmmm A vote? LMAO He is learning.

(2) In the absence of this popular support, the Islamic mujahed movement would be crushed in the shadows, far from the masses who are distracted or fearful, and the struggle between the Jihadist elite and the arrogant authorities would be confined to prison dungeons far from the public and the light of day."

YUP AZ, that is where CHOICE will send you. Again he makes W's point for him. The way forward for US and backward for them is thru the VOTE of the people. Democracy.
It really doesnt get any better than this.

"(3) The Muslim masses-for many reasons, and this is not the place to discuss it-do not rally except against an outside occupying enemy, especially if the enemy is firstly Jewish, and secondly American.

This, in my limited opinion, is the reason for the popular support that the mujahedeen enjoy in Iraq, by the grace of God."

I see a moment of insight here from AZ. He is realizing that what is happening in Iraq is not to his benefit. He is seeing that the people of Iraq do not fight for HIM or Osama or the Taliban or al aqsa or IJ or anyone else, they fight for their OWN country and their OWN choice. This scares the PANTS off of him.

For he knows that while we show the resolve to stay and wait out the detractors, the insurgency will die out as the people of Iraq see that we are there to fight by their side for their choices.

" the mujahed movement must avoid any action that the masses do not understand "

Maybe his next letter will explain how killing innocent people in a market place is simply something needed that they are to stupid to understand.....JEEEZ Democrat to a teeeee!

"They would be elected by the people of the country to represent them "

YEAH so long as they do co everything according to Sharia law......kinda like the left in this country, ALL well and good PROVIDING you agree and follow like sheep!

"And it doesn't appear that the Mujahedeen, much less the al-Qaida in the Land of Two Rivers, will lay claim to governance without the Iraqi people. Not to mention that that would be in contravention of the Shura methodology. That is not practical in my opinion."

BWAAAAA HAHAHAHHAHAHA Yah Think??? I wonder if the DNC has had this light bulb go on yet?

"before events overtake us"

Could he mean the US marines, or is he referring to the Iraqi people voting here? I would say Both!

On his Vietnam comments, I would offer that the RIGHT learned lessons from that conflict and the left did not. That is a topic all its own so I wont even go there in this post. I will offer two quick examples that DEMS call for now....MORE TROOPS ( failure then) and bailing out early ( failure then too).

"We don't want to repeat the mistake of the Taliban, who restricted participation in governance to the students and the people of Qandahar alone."

Didn't he just say to limit it to only people who follow sharia? Another example where it just doesnt FIT.

"The comparison between the fall of Kabul and the resistance of Fallujah, Ramadi, and Al Qaim and their fearless sisters shows a clear distinction, by God's grace and His kindness. It is the matter towards which we must strive, that we must support and strengthen"

Now hold on a second here, a while back he said he needed details about what is happeneing in Iraq, now he draws a destinction between Fallujah Ramadi and Kabul? I guess he missed the reports of Fallujah falling and Ramadi falling.

" Therefore, I stress again to you and to all your brothers the need to direct the political action equally with the military action, by the alliance, cooperation and gathering of all leaders of opinion and influence in the Iraqi arena."

I would offer that AZ and thus, Al Qaeda are seeing the same thing that Hamas is seeing. They can continue on the path they have been on and DIE NOW, or they can APPEASE and enter political arena in order that they may regroup and try to figure out a way forward. One could say live to fight another day. I would call that a CONCESSION and those winning a war do not concede.

"I don't have detailed information about the situation of the mujahedeen, so I ask that you help us with some beneficial details in this, and the extent of the different mujahedeen movements' readiness to join the course of unity."

I see further admission that he really has NO CLUE about much of anything.

" From the standpoint of not highlighting the doctrinal differences which the masses do not understand"

Calling the muslims ignorant again are we? YEAH that will gain hearts minds and support. LMAO. Sounds kinda like something Barbera Boxer would say about the majority of the American people concerning our last election eh? Or did I read that on the DNC homepage?

"I do not know the details of the situation where you are"

After a couple ranting paragraphs he says this YET AGAIN. I think we see why he doesn't know much. Short term memory loss! Maybe the damage done to his forhead is having this effect? Dude , its BOW your head NOT BANG your head!

"The position on the Shia:

This subject is complicated and detailed. I have brought it up here so as not to address the general public on something they do not know."

AGAIN with the ignorant thing. SHEESH, If I was an Iraqi/ muslim I would be getting pissed right about now.

"People of discernment and knowledge among Muslims know"

More of the same.

"We must repeat what we mentioned previously"

I get the repeating part, but when did it change to "we"?
I think he refers to Osama there.

"that the majority of Muslims don't comprehend this and possibly could not even imagine it. For that reason, many of your Muslim admirers amongst the common folk are wondering about your attacks on the Shia."

Again with dissin Muslims, telling them they are to stupid to understand why muslim terrorists are blowing up their mosques and markets full of civilians for their own good.

"And is the opening of another front now in addition to the front against the Americans and the government a wise decision?"

....and the front in kashmir and bosnia and sudan and somalia and and and and.........

"And do the brothers forget that we have more than one hundred prisoners - many of whom are from the leadership who are wanted in their countries - in the custody of the Iranians? And even if we attack the Shia out of necessity, then why do you announce this matter and make it public, which compels the Iranians to take counter measures? And do the brothers forget that both we and the Iranians need to refrain from harming each other at this time in which the Americans are targeting us?"

Now this I find quite interesting. Naming Iranians EH? Thanks AZ! Ill call diego garcia and tell em to suit up. ;)

" As the English proverb says, the person who is standing among the leaves of the tree might not see the tree."

Its a safe bet he missed the forrest thru the trees all right.

" You shouldn't be deceived by the praise of some of the zealous young men "

Since when is the Democratic party young?

"And aren't.... the depleted uranium bombs crueler than slaughtering?"

I am laughing so hard I cannot even post to that one.

" However this does not change the reality at all, which is that the general opinion of our supporter does not comprehend that"

How many times is he gonna call Iraqis Dumbasses?

"more than half of this battle is taking place in the battlefield of the media."

Is NBC, ABC, CBS, MSNBC, CNN, The New York Times, The LA Times, Time Magazine, Newsweak, BBC, etc, etc, etc, etc, taking NOTICE of that statement? How about the DNC and the DEMOCRATS as a whole? I wish the Dems would think about where this war would be now if they sided with US and took the media spotlight away from AMERICA (Bush/ pub)OPPOSITION Crap!

"that however far our capabilities reach, they will never be equal to one thousandth of the capabilities of the kingdom of Satan"

But But But, we are soooo OVERSTRETCHED.......!

"At the least, we should know as much as the enemy knows."

Here AZ seems to understand why the Bush administrations keeps some secrets. It is called TACTICAL advantage and his lack OF IT. Maybe the Dems should learn this lesson as AZ has when they scream for EVERYTHING to be PUBLIC Knoweldge.

"Our situation since Abu al-Faraj is good by the grace of God, but many of the lines have been cut off. Because of this, we need a payment while new lines are being opened. So, if you're capable of sending a payment of approximately one hundred thousand, we'll be very grateful to you."

Here is where the kiss butt form the begining comes in, He wants $$$$$$$$. It is nice to see more admission that we have had SUCCESS (made progress) on the financing front of this war. Removing Saddam seems have dried up financial support for alot of terrorists. BUT BUT BUT there is no LLLLLIIIIIINNNNKKKKSSSSSSS.........

"

"7-The subject of the Algerian brothers at our end, there are fears from the previous experiences, so if you're able to get in touch with them and notify us of the details from them, we would be very grateful to you. "

I dont quite know what to make of this. Attack in the works maybe?

"I have also had fifteen audio statements published and six others that were not published for one reason or another"

Army, Navy, Air force, marines, CIA, FBI? Soros ran out of money? Kerry lost?

"I think that the American intelligence services provided the aforementioned newspaper with it from my computer which they acquired"

Another admission of progress made by US. Thanks AZ.

"By God, if by chance you're going to Fallujah, send greetings to Abu Musab al-Zarqawi."

Now, if this is TO zarqawi, this makes no sense. A message to the courier maybe?

"and that He make us safe after our fear."

Admission he is LOSING.

WOW..I enjoyed reading every sentence in your post!! So many good evaluations..but this one caught my attention:

"2) In the absence of this popular support, the Islamic mujahed movement would be crushed in the shadows, far from the masses who are distracted or fearful, and the struggle between the Jihadist elite and the arrogant authorities would be confined to prison dungeons far from the public and the light of day."

This, my friend, is the nexus of his psyche. The Mujahadeen will be crushed in the shadows...in the daylight....in the moonlight, the cool calm that washes over folks when the nasty killing is done. They are being crushed in the shadows of their own importance..for crying out loud! Excellent analysis....Dittos!

Wow. A very interesting read. I think it shows how important it is not to underestimate our enemies. The leaders aren't just simple chieftains hiding in a cave....

Our enemies will only get nourishment from the left in this country..make sure u r not one of them.

I sort of read into that part about Afghanistan and the Taliban slightly different. Those who "disengaged" from the Taliban movement, were more likely FORCED into the movement against their will. Sorta like the Iraq elections when Saddam was running the show. To Al-Qaeda, those who "disengage", are merely traitors to their cause/belief. This is why you see so many "innocent bystanders" being blown up in public squares by suicide bombers, without regard to the fact they're innocent bystanders. To them, these innocents are traitors.

The first stage: Expel the Americans from Iraq.
I notice that you don't have much to say about how. Sort of like the joke about the mice who held a council of war to figure out how to stop the cat from catching them. The idea they hit on was to put a bell on the cat - but they couldn't figure out how to "bell the cat."

But then, nothing is easier than getting us to leave Iraq. We actually want to leave - just not under conditions apt allow you to do stage two.

The second stage: Establish an Islamic authority or amirate, then develop it and support it until it achieves the level of a caliphate- over as much territory as you can to spread its power in Iraq, i.e., in Sunni areas, is in order to fill the void stemming from the departure of the Americans, immediately upon their exit and before un-Islamic forces attempt to fill this void, whether those whom the Americans will leave behind them, or those among the un-Islamic forces who will try to jump at taking power.
Your problem is that you want the help of the people of Iraq for the purpose of aggrandizing your own power. We OTOH merely want the people of Iraq to choose their own destiny rather than submitting to your demands. People gleefully waving purple fingers in the air mean that they get it. And when they get that, you just naturally have a hard sell on your hands.
