A lot of conservatives just wanted a fight, they wanted some on-your-face person like Janice Rogers Brown, and Bush gave them this mild-mannered grandmotherly type. It's all about image; the feisty conservatives underrate Miers because she seems soft and they don't trust her intellectual powers or her toughness. I do. I'm sick of the brazen Ann Coulter types who just offend people and make themselves the issue.

So, in short, you don't believe Laura Bush's contention that Miers' detractors are sexist.

Thanks for answering honestly.

There are different forms of sexism; one form would reject any woman because she is a woman. Very few conservatives share that mentality, despite liberal stereotypes to the contrary. But there is another form of sexism - or maybe that's not even the right word - which insists that a woman project kind of an aggressive, male image in order to be taken seriously. And I think something like that is at work here in the Miers case.
