The opposite is true - can you imagine the reaction if GWB nominated his personal lawyer, HARRY Meirs, to the Supreme Court?
I'm in favor of confirming this nomination as the most qualified person, where one of the most important qualifications is confirmability. Miers is almost certainly at this point the most qualified nominee.
