Redunancy alert. Please rephrase. :-)
There are other tribes in Oklahoma, but think the five civilized tribes, which were forced to relocate to the Indian Nations as it was called. Choctaw, Seminole, Cherokee, Chickasaw and Creek. I don't think any of these even have reservations now in OK, but all have (and still do today) contributed greatly to the state.
So you're saying: "In NYC, if the envrionment physically and verbally abuses you, it's your fault."
The kids I went to school with were a half step up from white trash. Barely. I'm talking more in terms of attitude instead of income/occupation.
Yep. And you won't find much sympathy. If you move some place where you are at risk, it's your fault. If you're drunk on the subway and get mugged. Your fault. Stupid enough to take home a psycho chick who ties you up and sets fire to your genitals while watching re-runs of Seventh Heaven. Your fault.
Clemenza will back me up on this.
I went to Cardozo HS in Queens. Back then (good Heavens...is it THAT long ago?!!), there was still quite a bit of racial tension due to recently-implemented busing.
The locker rooms were gauntlets for the white girls (can't really speak for the boys). They were routinely spat upon, slapped in the backs of their heads, pushed, shoved, and beaten up. I myself had more than one incident, and I am six feet tall, was in excellent physical condition, and am fast, strong, and mean as a snake when pushed. Additionally, I also already had a bit of a reputation, i.e., "Better leave her alone; She's a crazy white girl and will beat your ass."
The other, smaller, shyer girls...they had a REAL hard time in those locker rooms.
Back then, they used to let the kids go home or out for lunch. ALL the white kids left the school at lunchtime or simply didn't take lunch at all. They never EVER went into the cafeteria. It simply wasn't safe for them.
I don't know what they do these days to separate the honors students from the rest of the school (I know many schools do that now), but even though Cardozo continues to have a great academic reputation, I can't imagine that things are any better than they were more than 20 years ago.
As for the suburban schools, well...I've seen the little darlings get released from the local High School, and I'm not exactly impressed with their behavior. I've seen plenty of bullying, though not typically along racial lines.
Regards,

Uh, this even happend to natives from time to time, particularly after leaving Vazac's 7B on Tompkins Square. Of course, you forgot to mention that said psycho chick also has a penis.
Very true!

"I know no racist whites"
Man,what planet do YOU live on?
I know what you're talking about. Believe me. I had some things happen within the school and the community that opened my eyes real quick. It was what caused me to actually start studying what was going on and that which really drew me into politics in my area.
Ha!
I'm off to work. But where did this idea that NYC is a "nanny environment" originate? Bugs the crap out of me...
Admiral Nimitz, Fredricksburg Texas.
"Yankee's can't be racists, only Southernors can."
Oh, here we go...'
Disagree do you? Do you read the MSM, watch ABCBSNBCCNN? Back up your dissent.
Well, when you surround yourselves with liberals who have no use for individual responsibility, it's no one else's fault but your own if, on some night while walking Central Park, someone else mugs you, demanding to know: "What's the frequency, Kenneth?" You should go to jail for letting yourself be mugged. And you should reward the mugger with a "Not Guilty" charge. After all, he was merely punishing you for being mediorcre and stupid. :-)
Its rooted in the Giuliani era. Folks came to New York thinking that all of the rough edges were gone.
I was accepted to Stuy and would have been there between 1982-1986 if I wasn't accepted at Regis (private, Jesuit), where I graduated in 1986.
The few folks I knew at Stuy burned out. Go figure.
I like Regis, Stuy, and Bronx Sci a lot tho!
Duh!
