Officers taped beating man arrested for public intoxication plead not guilty. A television producer recorded as New Orleans police officers arrested and beat Robert Davis, believing he was intoxicated in public. Davis' lawyer denies his client was drunk.

Updated: 7:50 p.m. ET Oct. 10, 2005 NEW ORLEANS - A 64-year-old man who was repeatedly punched in the head by police in an incident caught on videotape was not drunk, as police have alleged, and put up no resistance as he was being pummeled, his lawyer said Monday.

The man, a retired elementary school teacher, had returned to New Orleans only to check on property he owns in the storm-ravaged city and was out looking to buy cigarettes when he was arrested Saturday night in the French Quarter, the lawyer and the man’s father said.

These drunken looters and rioters are out of control in New Orleans. I'm glad they made an example out of this low-life.

"Was there a history of abuse or violent that they had knowledge of before they began the abuse.??"

So that would be an excuse for a beating like that? Kind of pre-emptive police strike?

I realize this is from a lawyer but it's not looking good for these officers whether or not they were justified. Innocent or guilty the're toast.

These officers should be out of a job - It is obvious they don't have the disposition needed for police work -

How they acted was completely foolish - They should be fired (and depending on other circumstances along with their past history....possibly even brought up on assault chargers).

With that said, this man does not deserve a $ million dollar settlement at the cost to the taxpayers - The officers being out of their jobs and any chargers pending on him dropped should be more then enough.
