Srinagar, October 10: In the wake of the killer quake, the Jehad Council, an amalgam of 14 militant outfits based in Pakistan occupied Kashmir, has announced temporary suspension of its operations in the ravaged areas of Jammu and Kashmir.
The decision to suspend temporarily the operations in the state was taken at a meeting convened by the chairman of Council and supreme commander of Hizbul Mujahideen Syed Salahuddin at Muzaffarabad on Sunday, a local news agency quoting a fax from the organisation said on Monday.
Salahuddin asked all the constituents of the council to direct the militant cadres across the state to halt their operations in the affected areas and extend possible relief to the victims.

Lashkar faces quake fury: 'many killed, trapped'

Islamabad, October 10: Scores of activists from an Islamist charity linked to a banned Pakistani militant organisation died in the devastating earthquake that struck Pakistans border with India at the weekend.
The militant group, Lashkar-e-Taiba, was outlawed by Pakistan in January 2002, a month after its fighters were accused of taking part in an attack on the Indian Parliament.
A spokesman for Jamat-ud-Dawa, a group drawn from the ranks of Lashkar, said the charitys mosques, hospitals, schools and Islamic seminaries were obliterated in yesterdays earthquake that killed more than 20,000 people.
Many of our members have been killed. They are in scores while several others are still trapped under the rubble, the spokesman said today.
The spokesman, who did not want to be identified, said the Taiba hospital run by Jamat-ud-Dawa in Muzaffarabad, capital of Pakistani Kashmir, and several of its mosques and offices were destroyed.
Pakistani current affairs magazine, The Herald, reported a few months ago that militant groups were re-establishing training camps in the same area of Kashmir and North West Frontier Province that has been hit hardest by the earthquake.
India has also complained of increased militant activity in Jammu and Kashmir over the summer months, though militants have taken heavy casualties trying to sneak across.
The Lashkar is regarded as one of the most organised militant outfits, and analysts believe the Pakistan government has not cracked down as hard on it as it has done on others. Reuters

Heck, sounds like a good time to set off a strategically placed nuke. I mean, since the country is already rubble....
That is because the quake did all their work for them....death and destruction

Terrorists defy Jihad Council direction, kill ten in Rajouri
Islamabad/New Delhi October 10, 2005 3:15:31 PM IST
Unidentified terrorists killed around ten persons in three different incidents in Rajouri on Sunday night, despite the Muttahida Jihad Council's (MJC) chief Syed Salahudin having decided to suspend terrorist activities in the quake-hit Valley for the time being, as a condolence over the loss of lives.
While five members of two Hindu families were massacred in Rajnagar in the Budhal area, four Hindus were killed in Gabbar village, and one Muslim in Kulhar village.
Budhal is said to be the worst quake-hit area where about 100 houses collapsed and 20 people sustained injuries.
Police said that terrorists barged into two homes in Rajnagar village in Budhal, about 200 km north of Jammu, around 11 pm, and killed the people with sharp-edged weapons.
Stating that it was a clear act of terrorism, Rajouri SSP Jaipal Singh said: "We are investigating". The police are yet to ascertain the terrorist group behind the killings.
With the telephone lines being cut due to the devastating earthquake, the police are finding it difficult to reach out the place where the incident occurred. The place is said to be at a higher altitude.
Meanwhile, the Pakistan-based Online News agency reported that the MJC on Sunday decided not to carry out jihadi activities in the quake-hit areas in Jammu and Kashmir. Participants of the meeting reportedly expressed their deep sorrow and sympathised with the quake victims.
It was also decided at the meeting that no effort would be spared to help out those affected, said the report. (ANI)
It would appear this is a great time to begin a major airborne attack of those terrorist camps. SInce they are camped out, hte IR images should be very clear.
Sounds like a target rich environment.
