Right to privacy dictate the removal of these devices from cars.
These devices are designed to prosecute the owner, not to defend. They don't tell you what was going on around the vehicle, only the reactions by the driver.

They are designed to operate the vehicle and its safety equipment.
Use for accident investigation is a misuse of data not collected for that purpose.

I think this is kind of ironic. I'll bet these boxes were installed to try to protect the auto companies for being blamed for bad drivers--and letting the drivers get sued.
