The main problem with black America is the lack of local role models, national role models and identity. With national "Role Models" like Jesse, Al, Louis and Kayne and the lack of local role models poor black Americans will not progress. In addition, based on my experiences, many poor blacks feel as though they are displaced Africans living in a white America that doesn't value them. The Democratic Party wants to keep things the way they are and many Reverends, athletes and the Hollywood crowd are helping them do just that.
I beg to disagree. What was most shocking was seeing a segment of society so totally incapable of doing anything for themselves, seeing grown men wholly dependent on the government to provide for their rescue. Seeing a situation where the only initiative being taken was that of the looters. If people had put half as much energy into planning for their safety as they did in finding a way to transport a stolen big-screen television set across flooded streets, there would have been a lot less pandemonium. This is what shocked me and many other whites.
They left out one vital statistic that explains it all..<p.
Whites are ten times more to blame for black poverty than blacks.<p.
Now we know where all the blame lies.
My poverty prevention program:
A. Work hard in school
B. Stay away from the wrong crowd
C. Do not smoke, drink, gamble, or have sex before marriage
D. When you get a job, work hard at it and work to improve yourself for a promotion
E.If you get married, be a faithful spouse. (Oh, and pick your spouse wisely.)
F. Do not vote Democratic.
What's left behind are urban and rural concentrations of essentially third-world people, who are no more amenable to sociopolitical interventions than their brothers and sisters in the rest of the third world.
And nobody has any idea what to do about it.
Auburn Avenue didn't become an impoverished ghetto because of the decline of segregation, but because of the advent of the ever-expanding social welfare program initiated by LBJ's "War on Poverty". Many inner city blacks have been robbed of any sense of personal responsibility and social worth.
People have to want to change first. Blacks have to honestly accept republican ideals. Alcoholics have to want to change.
Exactly.
And who has kept them scared? The Poverty Pimps and their white liberal masters.
When you are scared of being physically attacked, scared of being discriminated against, scared of being held back, scared of being used, scared that you will never make it no matter how hard you try, scared that opportunities will never be available, why even bother.
Those who break away from poverty and dismay do so because they leave that fear behind. They stand up for themselves and establish pride in their work, pride in their ability, pride in their accomplishments. When a man has things he can be proud of, fear of the unknown melts away as he moves forward.
The middle class in the black community often feels anger, pity, and frustration at the poor in the black community, but it is the poor who feel hatred towards those who have "left them behind". The poor are afraid and the middle class feel pride. Why? Because when King held the lamp showing them the trail out of the ghetto blazed by so many great blacks in history, the Poverty Pimps now stand by the trailhead and tell stories of disaster waiting around the bend.
The middle class has not betrayed the poor; the Poverty Pimps have betrayed the bold.
When poor blacks become successful, it means they've moved on. The ones left behind are there of their own free will. I don't feel even a speck of guilt over it. Grow up and take care of yourselves, people. Get your own darn selves out of the ghetto. I'm sick of your whining.
Stay in school, stay off drugs, and establish a husband and wife relationship in the family.
And if affirmative action is great for the rest of America, why can't young Yalies open up their great school to the poor of their own community?
They were the only ethnic group brought to America involuntarily.
Wrong. African and Arab slave traders sold anyone they could as slaves, all around the world. There is a large settlement of Chinese that was brought here as "indentured servants". There were white slaves. Any many blacks in America are from ancestors who emigrated to our shores (see Barak Obama's parents). Of course, maybe there are no Nigerians in Atlanta anymore.
Still would like to know why Africans and black Americans have such a differing world view. They do not like each other for the most part.

Anyone who believes that more affirmative action would help is a self-serving fool. You can't give productive jobs to people who can't read or write.

Evidence for the truth of what you are saying can be found by looking at the experience of Germany in dealing with the integration of East Germany into a new, unified state. Despite the expenditure of a trillion dollars in the former Communists state, the people there remain far behind the rest of Germany. Persons trained in the habits of dependence remain in a state of dependence.
It will be another generation before most of those people are in their graves, but in the meanwhile a new generation is being trained in resentment.
American black society has chosen the chains of perpetual victimhood over the risky freedom of capitalism. It's a form of slow suicide.
