Wow! Thanks for the award! I just got up and saw that I had won!
There is something inherently wrong with the legalization of infanticide and naming it a constitutional right and cloaking the aberration as part of our privacy rights. More than 40 million babies have been killed since the Roe vs. Wade ruling.
This from Arlen Spector (RINO):
Harriet Miers' qualifications to be a Supreme Court justice and her views on privacy rights will be a focus of her confirmation hearings, Senate Judiciary Committee chairman Arlen Specter says.
Miers must show she can handle complicated legal issues and has not cut deals with the White House to overturn the 1973 Roe v. Wade ruling that legalized abortion, Specter, R-Pa., said Sunday on ABC's "This Week."
Roe vs. Wade needs to be overturned.
If Harriet Miers is confirmed I hope she will be instrumental in abolishing this pox on our society known as Roe v. Wade.

Thanks snugs, once again my apologies for such a late finish. We had over a 1,000 posts yesterday I don't know how to look up the views but I am sure it was a lot. Great job posting the winners, like the new ribbons for second and third.
Mr. STEVENS. I am compelled to speak in opposition to this amendment, although I wholeheartedly agree with what the Senator from Arizona has said. It was a marvelous statement made by a man who has every reason to say exactly what he said. I support what the majority leader has said, but there is a classified annex to the Army Field Manual that is not spelled out in this amendment, and there are people who are not in uniform who may not even be citizens of the United States who represent us in very strange and dangerous places, whose lives may be put in jeopardy by the process that is spelled out in part of this amendment. I speak for them.I honor all service men and women, and I really believe they should absolutely follow the lifestyle of the Senator from Arizona, as well as his statement tonight. But as the leader has said, there are some changes that have to be made if we are to be faithful to those people who live in the classified world and will be covered by the classified annex that, if one reads the amendment, is not covered here.
I have to do my best to make sure that when we get to conference people understand that there is that problem. Therefore, I shall oppose the amendment and try to straighten it out in conference. I know it would pass.
I yield back the remainder of our time.

It has a clinical definition. Another part that bugs me is the prohibition on "degrading"
Cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment include such practices as corporal punishment, pain-causing devices, interrogation under duress, biomedical experiments on prisoners, the use of drugs on prisoners, and solitary confinement.http://www0.un.org/cyberschoolbus/humanrights/declaration/5.asp
And Boyle. And in Committee, Haynes, Kavanaugh and Saad. Nielson too, but her confirmation vote is not contentious at all.
Boyle was first nominated to the 4th Circuit in 1991 by GHWB, FWIW.

Exactly! It's not being put into action. Social conservatives have yet to find a place to "enact" thier platform.
I think the GOP makes a mistake of dismissing the social conservative's wishes. Many in the GOP disagree with me, and openly despise social conservativism.
Curious. Are the "Social Conservatives DOING something or they sitting like most "Conservative Activists" waiting for Bush to "DO SOMETHING" FOR them? If the Social Conservatives have all the power their foes claim they have,WHY are they doing NOTHING with it?

My criticism and concern was for the GOP. The GOP needs to woo voters, or it will not win elections. I think the GOP is making a mistake if it dismisses, ignores, doesn't act on, or derides the expressed wishes of social conservatives.
I agree that social conservatives have no effective power. But they do express their thoughts to the party, which can handle the thoughts as it sees politically expedient. The chips fall where they may.
I think the Miers nomination is a political disaster. The good news is that my track record for making accurate predictions is terrible ;-)
