For those who don't know, the DARPA challenge is a race of autonomous vehicles (i.e no driver or human control) across a 131 mile course. The course has to be completed in 10 hours or less, and, in the case of multiple competitors completing, the shortest time wins.

One mile to go ...

That's one small journey for a robot, one giant trek for cyberdom.

Looks like Stanford has finished. Just waiting for the website to indicate so. Woo hoo! Now we can have self-driving supply convoys. And self-driving robotic bombs to attack them. I love technology.

Considering most couldn't make it very far once they left the start chute last time, That's good news!

One for Stanford and two for Carnegie Mellon look to finish on time. Wonder if MIT entered?

Carnieg Mellon just finished. Time: 7.80 hours. The winning team, Stanford, completed in 7.67 hours (avergage speed 17.2 miles per hour).

This constitues a major milestone in robotics, in my opinion. Now it's a matter of continual refinement. 10 years from now, this'll seem routine.

Whoops. Those times are wrong. The source I was referring to is continuing to update the 'run' times, even though they've completed the course.
