There are only two authorities in regard to knowing what is true - what is right and wrong, moral and immoral.

1. God

2. One's own mind.

Even accepting another's ideas is within the purview of one's own mind; since I can accept or reject someone else's conclusions freely.

This topic is vitally important and everyone concerned with not only their own well being but that of the country (and indeed, the world) should be considering this. If God is the Author of truth, then He decides what is right and wrong. My own mind doesn't need to weigh and judge or figure out the rules, just needs to figure out how to apply the rules in different circumstances.

If my own mind is the arbiter, then I - and everyone around me - is in for a wild, wild ride. The nature of the mind is that it is unstable and flickering - deciding on one path or truth today, and tomorrow rejecting what it already decided, switching gears so to speak, and jerking me around in another direction. Or pulling me in several directions at once - that's when people feel like "I'm going crazy! My mind's going crazy!"

And moral absolutes are not sectarian, they are universal.

This is mostly true, except that it should read 1. God and 2. Man. I changed it because moral relativism can be on a personal level, a cultural level, or a governnment level, and the government has the power to enforce its idea of right and wrong. In any case, the source is man or one of his institutions if it is not God.
