When and how do the people get to force these activist judges to step down? Why are they ever given a pass, no matter how far from the Constitution they stray? When do they have to answer to the people and a higher authority?

In CA, public officials such as these Superior Court judges can be subject to Recall, as was well publicized when ex-Gov. Davis was recalled in 2003. Perhaps this is the only way that may work.

They are also subject to reaffirmation by yes/no vote on the ballot every 12 years or so, butthat rarely works because nobody knows who the judges are, so they usually all get reelected by 75% or so. Maybe they are also subject to impeachment, but I doubt that could happen in this case.
