I disagree with the assumption that Miers fits into the category of "someone who doesn't know her stuff will fall in with the prevailing mindset of those around her, be overwhelmed by them, and end up seeking their approval as the Times hails her "growth"."

Harriet Miers (at the time Catholic) attended SMethodistU in the 1960's to attain a degree in Mathematics (at the time a male domain)...she then proceeded to Law School (at the time a male domain) & enter a male only domain of a law firm, etc... She's remained unmarried (unusual for her generation & background). She was an avowed democrat who donated to Al Gore in 1988, but chose a different path from those around her. Here we are now debating her nomination to the Supreme Court by a Republican President... There may be reasons for concern about her nomination, but I believe her opinions will be strictly her own (I'm not necessarily saying that's a comforting thought).

Although I hate to disagree with anyone named "Sam the Sham"...because I'd like to know what happened to the Pharaohs and Wooly Bully...(and if your screen name isn't related to that group...well, do a google search, obtain an old album & enjoy...I have a feeling that Harriet Miers probably has an album of theirs somewhere too).
