Mids pull off daring prank in heart of wild blue yonder
The Capital ^ | 2005-10-06 | EARL KELLY

Posted on 10/07/2005 1:15:42 PM PDT by Junior

A dozen midshipmen earned the grudging respect of the Air Force Academy by repainting a jet fighter on the Colorado academy's grounds blue and gold, and labeling it with "Navy" and "Blue Angels."

My daughter's a cadet at the USAF Academy, I just called her and she's just got to Annapolis and was heading over to the range to check in weapons (Combat Shooting Team). Besides the football game a lot of USAFA teams are at Navy for competitions all weekend.

BTW, this happened two days ago at the USAFA.....

The planned payback is awful.....hehehehehe...

While traveling I-25 past the AFA, one can see the football stadium, complete with 40 foot letters painted on the bleachers, proudly displaying:

AIR FORCE

Couple of years ago, coincidentally while Navy was in town, the letters had been mysteriously changed to:

AIR FARCE

There was a tank on the campus of the Defense Language Institute in Monterey that was, for at least 24 hours at a time, the only tank in the US Navy's arsenal. ;)

Very cheering to read something so light-hearted when there's so much negative news around. Good for the mids!

"Take that, boy!"

Pukin my man, you forget that I am a Naval Academy Graduate. Those were my boys. I was a purple (joint) ops guy before being purple was cool. I will say, however, that the only time I don't cheer for the AFA football team is when they play Navy. And after over a decade of watching them trounce Navy, it has been kind of nice to see Navy take the Commander in Chiefs trophy the last couple years.

Speaking of being purple, I'm half way through my first month of line ops in the MD-11. The nice thing about FedEx is that you definitely see the world. The other nice thing, is that when you prang a FedEx heavy onto the runway you don't have to listen to the passengers and a bunch of gay flight attendants give you grief.

Pretty cool, but still not MIT level. They'd find something to do with the spires of the chapel -- they're just begging for it.

I'm just glad that the Academy, like MIT, allows such stunts.

Right, big game this week at the Naval Academy -- Air Force versus Navy. As a Navy season ticket holder, I will be there. I am sure they will flash a picture of the new "Navy" plane. Go Navy!!!

I thought there was only one football game a year, played thanksgiving weekend something about squids against grunts.

I could be wrong?
