RENO, Nev. (AP) -- A woman was booted off a Southwest Airlines flight for wearing a T-shirt that bore an expletive and images of President Bush, Vice President Dick Cheney and Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice.
Lorrie Heasley of Woodland, Wash., said she plans to press a civil-rights complaint against the airline over Tuesday's action at Reno-Tahoe International Airport, halfway through Heasley's scheduled trip from Los Angeles to Portland, Ore.
"I have cousins in Iraq and other relatives going to war," Heasley told the Reno Gazette-Journal. "Here we are trying to free another country and I have to get off an airplane ... over a T-shirt. That's not freedom."
Southwest Airlines spokeswoman Marilee McInnis said several passengers complained about the shirt.
Heasley, a 32-year-old lumber saleswoman, said passengers began complaining after she and her husband, Ron, moved to the front of the cabin in Reno.
She agreed to cover the words with a sweatshirt, but when the sweatshirt slipped while she was trying to sleep, she was ordered to wear her T-shirt inside-out or leave.
She and her husband left. They arrived home in a rental car Wednesday afternoon.
McInnis said Southwest rules allow the airline to deny boarding to any passenger whose clothing is "lewd, obscene or patently offensive."
But Allen Lichtenstein, lawyer for the American Civil Liberties Union in Las Vegas, said it "might be problematic" that the airline "changed rules in the middle of a flight."
Heasley said she has been in touch with ACLU lawyers in Seattle, and wants Southwest to reimburse her for the last leg of the trip.
Could some one pleaseeeeee do a thread on Search techiques to help with this problem??
In the general populations I would say your right but there are still localized pockets of us around
It's not your airplane either bitch.

thanks to this, everyone hears her now. Hannity should've ignored her, not gave her more fame and press.
haven't you ever heard of wardrobe malfunctions?
I would assume that is also somewhere in the fine print but off the top of my head I don't remember seeing that. Again, it will vary airline to airline.
-"I have cousins in Iraq and other relatives going to war,"-
I'll bet they're not on speaking terms.
the whole sweatshirt slipped off? Geeesh, she thinks she is being picked on for wearing a vulgar or obscene t shirt in front of decent people and second, SHE opted to drive home so I cannot see where the airline is responsible for any reimbursement.
I see profane signs and have to listen to vulgar tirades every time I counter protest these leftists. I don't feel sorry for myself because another member of our group (a wonderful lady) was punched by a leftist because she wouldn't take the bait and curse back and have read articles about union thugs assaulting children, ripping signs out of their hands, teachers making fun of children whose parent or parents were fighting to protect libery and our way of life and on and on. Where is the America of my youth?
Indeed, but one that occurs during sleep is a new wrinkle on things.
Huh!!! How about the Law
Profanity isn't protected speech. Never has been.
"This is interesting, I personally thank the airline for removing her, I'm sick of profanity being publicized and down graded as no big deal. There is a case here in MA, a septic tank company has a slogan on the back of their trucks, Sh*t Happens, their headquarters are located directly across the street from a grammar school, parents are up in arms, liberals are saying these parents need to get a life, it's no big deal, sh*t happens, it's just a cute saying, well, excuse me, but if you can't say the word on tv or radio then it IS a big deal, there's a raging debate going on here on talk radio, most people agree the company needs to remove the slogan but there are those die hards that think it's just a-ok indeed, no big deal......"
I recommend the Mass. septic tank company amend their slogan to "It Happens"...Most people know what "It" is, especially when "It" hits the fan.
Why the hell does the place she work for have to suffer ?
The captain of the aircraft IS judge and jury when it comes to issues on their aircraft. If the captain wanted that women off for any reason her a$$ is gone. If he or she felt the shirt was disruptive and would cause trouble in the cabin it is their perogative to have her removed.
This same stupid argument is used all of the time even by Freepers.
Our speech is protected from government restriction. As far as I am aware Southwestern is not a government agency. They can set their own rules just as you and I can set rules for speech and behavior in our own homes or places of business.
Just filling a request, FRiend. I never asked anyone to do anything against her or her place of employment, nor would I want anyone to. But one of the things I like about FR is that it's a clearinghouse of information.
Now settle down.
