This stadium guard would seem to need some serious retraining, as to just what the purpose of his job might be, don't you think? Did he bother to report this? Was anyone made aware, outside of his gossiping after the fact?
College kids dont want their backpacks searched...

Absolutely. However, I expect this sort of thing may happen quite often when college kids realize that they can't sneak their booze past the guards in their backpacks.. (although you'd think most would know better by now since searches are done at all major stadium events AFAIK).
Why the hell did this not make any major news outlets?
Why not at least Sports Center?
