Well too bad I don't really want any of those three to be the GOP nominee!
Good to know though that Hillary won't be the unbeatable candidate the Dems hope she'd be.
Why is it people get so stupid once they become associated with the STATE DEPT?
If people think the Miers nomination is an ugly topic at FR, wait till Giuliani is the frontrunner.
Nobody wants McCain. Not a single republican anywhere.
I couldn't ever vote for McCain simply based on the fact that he is a pushover.
Despite Giuliani's social views, I think the most important issues are going to be 1)National Security 2)Foreign Policy/WOT and 3)Economic Growth.
His leadership capablities and willingness to finish the War on Terror is essential and invaluable. No President has had any impact on Abortion/Gay Marriage or any other "hot button" issue.
As for Rice. She is a hardcore libertarian-Republican. She is an extreme economic conservative, a heavy states-rights advocate, a major 2nd amendment defender and so on. And as for abortion, she opposes Partial Birth and federal funding of the procedure (so, whatever flaws "mildly-pro-choice" has with it). Not to mention her Foreign Policy Experience...
A poll this early is based almost entirely on name recognition and doesn't tell us very much. George W. Bush wasn't even on the radar screen at this point in 1997, and a poll of Democratic contenders in 2001 would have shown Al Gore as the front-runner and John Kerry as nothing more than a limp-wristed Herman Munster from Massachusetts.
Rudy Giuliani will never be elected, regardless of what the "hot-button" issues are in 2008. He's got way too much dirt in his past, and some of his actions as mayor of New York could best be described as "criminal" in nature.
Can you imagine the Guilianni handling a Supreme Court nominee. We would have a baby killing Gay marriage supporter for sure.
Nonsense, he was the leader in the polls at this time in 1997.
That's because Condi refuses to act poor and downtrodden like the commicRATs believe she must to be a real black female.
so now Rudy is a "criminal" too. well, at least you've moved on from telling us he's short and had no hair as reasons why he should be disqualified as a candidate.
or, and let's not forget your "he speaks with a lisp" issue.
They call it "Foggy Bottom syndrome".
I find it very interesting that 9/11 basically made so many people forget that Rudy Giuliani was an absolute @sshole who couldn't have won a Presidential election if he were running against a pile of rocks.
That's very interesting. I stand corrected on that -- but I'm pretty sure Bush wasn't even a serious candidate (at least not from a public standpoint) until 1998.
