Richard Childress Racing will appeal the penalty NASCAR handed down Tuesday to crew chief Todd Berrier, the team announced Wednesday.
Berrier, crew chief for Kevin Harvick, was suspended two races, fined $10,000 and placed on probation for the rest of 2005 for violations found after qualifying last week at Talladega Superspeedway.
"After several discussions with the crew of the No. 29 team, we have decided to appeal NASCAR's ruling," Childress said ina statement. We feel we have a responsibility to GM Goodwrench and all of our sponsors, as well as all of our fans, to stand up for what we think is right."
Berrier was kicked out of the track after the violation was found. It was the second time Berrier was penalized in 2005: Berrier was fined $25,000, suspended four races and the team and driver each docked 25 points after it was discovered the team had altered the cars fuel cell prior to qualifying at Las Vegas.
The Talladega violations were an "unapproved aerodynamic modification and unapproved fuel cell vent mounting," NASCAR said.
