Simply put, a "ping" is an alert sent out to FReepers who may be interested in a particular topic. That way, it is easier for all of us to follow a thread without searching through too many postings, threads, keywords, and the like. As you can see, with the sheer amount of info on this forum, tracking can sometimes take time.
