I think the federales changed their mind about the LAX bomber ~ but they still hold to the idea of his not being part of a larger group of terrorists.

Don't forget the DC snipers. John Malvo drew and wrote extensively about punishing the infidels. The government doesn't want to consider anyone not connected to AQ a terrorist and that's stupid. At the same time they're not connecting AQ affiliates they say they're worried about independent cells or individuals.

That happened on the first anniversary of 9/11, and he was actually an Egyptian. Another of the sometimes suspect websites identified him as a member of Islamic Jihad.
