I think it was more than that.

Given the fact that an LEO saw him trying to purchase amm. nitrate and got his plates, I am sure this kid was under surveillance. They probably had at least a little bit of info on his plans, and increased security accordingly.

PKM said they had bomb sniffing dogs in the stadium before the game.

They don't use them doggies for moonshine.

I believe that too, but PhiKapMom's posts convinced me that the tighter entry search during halftime was really what tripped him up, as far as actually getting in.

I don't think he was in control of detonation myself.

I read a report that the robot they used to destroy the other device(s) was already at the game, too.
