Maybe it's somewhat simpler than that. Maybe in the middle of the investigation they don't want to spew too much info that will foul ongoing leads, whatever they are. If I were the investigator I sure wouldn't want my daily status report published in the paper either.

It's undoubtedly true that if I were the investigator I'd not want to have too much information out there. But this kind of restrained behavior is so atypical from the press, that's what seems curious to me. I mean during Katrina we had reports of baby rapes and cannibalism, 10,000 dead, etc. All it took was some whisper of something and they went live with it. Now all the sudden responsible journalism where things have to be double and triple sourced before they go with it. Quite a change in the space of a month.

Perhaps. But I would think it is, if anything, their own political correctness that makes them blind to anything that points to the middle east or Islam. They think they'd just be fueling the pro-U.S. pro-war-on-terror crowd if they admit that sometimes, in fact, terrorists really ~do~ come from the middle east.

As it is... they would LOVE it if the government would try to shut them up. It would make for their biggest headlines ever.

But this story remains really interesting, and curious on lots of levels. Some of it has yet to make any sense at all. If it was AQ, they're definitely slipping. This would then look like a mistake. The bomb was detonated early. Really clumsy. You'd think they'd try something bigger, like multiple hits.

Maybe they did, and this was the only one we got at the last minute.

There's a lot of maybe's. If it was a loner, wacko sort of fellow... it could look like this too. Tried his hand at bombmaking and made a really simple mistake too early in his career.

Yeah, it does imply that there is an invisible hand influencing the coverage decision on this. If not for this website and a single channel in oklahoma, we would know nothing of this at all, and we are a small minority.

If not for the internet, this event would never have occured except to the eyewitnesses, and even many of them would doubt what was obvoius at the time.
