Speaking of GOOGLE EARTH, does anyone know how to get the current imagery? What I'm seeing is old. You were expecting real time video down-links?
GE is made up of publicly available earth imaging from a variety of sources. You can get newer images of some ares in special collections of overlays - such as Katrina pictures of the gulf. However these are not always of the best resolution as they have not all been cleaned up and contrast matched. See the Google Earth home page and the Google Earth community for info on this. Further, some of these would not be suitable for permanant inclusion - which is why they are overlays. Water will go down eventually.
You can always throw $20 bucks at them to see if the paid service is better.

LOL...might just do that! Never paid much attention to GOOGLE EARTH until the hurricanes. On one of the 'cane threads, someone told me how to get more recent imaging but there were so many threads and I didn't make note of it because we were preparing to evacuate! I love it; makes me feel like a world traveler!
