President George Bush, in an effort to calm the Republican party's conservative base after his appointment of the relatively-unknown Harriet Miers to the Supreme Court, today promised that he would "make things right by picking a fight" with Congressional Democrats in early 2006.
"I know my fellow right-wingers were hoping for a big ideological brawl over this nomination," said Mr. Bush in a letter to supporters. "I guess for some of us, this feels like winning a baseball game by forfeit when the other team doesn't show up. You still get the win, but it doesn't get your blood going."
The president assured conservatives that he has ordered White House staff to "identify an issue where it's more important to stage a public fight with Democrats than to accomplish our strategic goals."
"When we find that issue," Mr. Bush told the party faithful, "I'll just walk up to Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid and spit in his eye."
Pinging the usual suspects!
(anyone wanting on or off the satire ping list, let me know!)
Some on this forum won't be happy until W takes a bullwhip to Reid and Pelosi during a SOTU address.
I think that'd make us all happy.:)
It's a fine line. Too close isn't good, too ridiculous is worse.
The fact is that the conservative base wanted a nuclear showdown, and even though they'll almost surely get a judge they like, they wanted to see blood.
Raising taxes on scotch would get Teddy's attention. Government ammo subsidies for poor kiddies would raise Dicky Schumer and Di-Fi's blood pressures. Siccing the IRS on Hill's donors wouldn't be anything she hasn't already tried herself. Spiking Howie Dean's lithium with crystal meth would work. Work to do, work to do...
Very Good!
You win a prize!
That's no reason to go to war! I mean there are plenty of reasons, but you don't decide to fight first and then make up the reasons later... I mean look at Iraq... oh... never mind.
LOL!!
Here's what us conservatives want to see happen:
Mongol General: We have won again. That is good! But what is best in life?
Mongol Warrior: The open steppe, fleet horse, falcon on your wrist, wind in your hair!
Mongol General: Wrong! Conan, what is best in life?
Conan: To crush your enemies, see them driven before you, and to hear the lamentation of the women!
Mongol General: That is good.
Red meat comes at a premium these days!
..."promised that he would "make things right by picking a fight" with Congressional Democrats in early 2006."
A little too late, Bub.
No! We have found that issue. There was no hesitation when Afghanistan was the issue .... there was no hesitation when Iraq was the issue ... there should be no hesitation NOW. The 'new tone in Washington' is not possible. We are dealing with egomaniacs who place party and power ahead of all else. They need to be SLAPPED DOWN. I hope Meirs is not confirmed. I want to see Schumer, Byrd, Kennedy, Reid, Biden, and all the rest of them taken to the woodshed ... I want them to understand that they LOST! You're either with us, Dubwa, or you're against us.
I don't want a brawl. I want Michael Luttig on the S.C.
The Mongol General was Ghengis Khan. That was a historical quote.
