I agree with Ann. Miss Miers lives in a world quite different from most Americans, on many different levels.
1- Single woman, never married, never raised a family. How can she relate 95%, no 99% of mainstream America?
1a- On the plus side, I suspect (and that is the operative phrase, SUSPECT) a single woman, 60+ would be dead set against abortion.
2- Lawyer, now THAT gives me a warm and fuzzy feeling, and especially since she was the Texas State Lottery commissioner.
3- Lifelong friend of the Bush family. I know this sounds like a weak argument, however, look at the track record of "friends of Bush family" hired and running FEMA.
The President says " Wait until the hearings and see how she responds to the questions". Well, Mr. President, if I don't like her responses, it is wayyyy too late for me to object.
Please, Mr. President, give me a person who has a track record, or at least an opinion on something besides how the Texas Lottery should be marketed.

The problem with "waiting to the hearings" is that the hearings are little more than a dog and pony show.
I could accept an unproven candidate if we could find out the truth in a hearing. I could accept a qualified, proven candidate who goes through a show hearing. But I can't accept both things together.
