What is a nice guy doing at a party just after his roommate blows up? I'd be happy about getting the A's for the semester, but would at least miss a few parties out of respect.

I think "shortly after" refers to like minutes after. The implicstion is that the guy was at the party during the blast and shortly after they found out he was the roommate they led him away.

What is a nice guy doing at a party just after his roommate blows up?

I didnt learn of the bombers identity until late Saturday night. Assuming that the roommate is innocent, why would he know that his roommate was the bomber or even that there had a been a bombing in the hour or so after the explosion?
