Grand Jury To Aid in Behl Case

Police want more information about Taylor Marie Behl, and today they're turning to a multijurisdictional grand jury to help them get it.

Behl, a Virginia Commonwealth University freshman, disappeared Sept. 5, less than two weeks after the start of classes.

Sources close to the criminal investigation into her disappearance told The Times-Dispatch that the grand jury, which typically meets on the second and fourth Wednesdays of each month, agreed to meet today, in part to hear evidence on the Behl case.

The number of witnesses subpoenaed to testify could not be determined last night. The convening of the grand jury suggests that four weeks after she disappeared, detectives are still aggressively pursuing leads.

Witnesses who refuse to appear before a grand jury can be arrested; witnesses who lie to a grand jury can be charged with perjury.

Witnesses may also invoke their Fifth Amendment rights and refuse to answer questions on the grounds that they would incriminate themselves. Under such circumstances, the law allows prosecutors to allow witnesses to answer the question without their statements being used against them in any further proceedings.

Interesting development. I wonder if they are targetting one particulare person with the grand jury, or if there are several uncooperative people.

What I heard last night on TV was that there were a few people that were refusing to talk.

Listening to WRVA right now. They have not released the identify, but they have found a body in a shallow grave in Matthews County, just east of Richmond.

I've just been to the CTV boards where they are saying that it is Taylor. Apparently Fawley had pictures of this property on his web site.
