you can make your assumptions,

Let me help you with some predictions: If crap like this starts happening with regularity, you'll witness smoking mosques. Lots of them. Americans ain't into the martyr thingy.

"And if it was politically/religiously motivated, we probably would've found notes and messages from him on the subject."

Or maybe he was planning a string of attacks before getting his message out. The detonation outside the stadium looks like a mistake.

The facts surrounding this story make the "peaceful suicide" theory not pass the smell test. Nobody makes a cache of bombs for nothing and goes to blow themselves up. Plus, suicide by homemade bomb doesn't sound feasible in an area where guns are easily available. If the bomb didn't work as expected(partial detonation), the idiot would be in a world of hurt.

Also, first-hand accounts from respected FReepers and lack of press releases make this look like a cover-up. We can't let this story die just because the MSM wants it to.

Of course, the simple explanation would be that he was completely nuts but it is highly unlikely.

As stated before, BAN THE QURAN!

Good grief. Where do you think you are, Belarus?

What assumption did I make?

I simply pointed out flaws in people's statements.

I understand what your saying,

but let me put it too you in this frame,

my middle brother still thinks I am a 16 year old snot nosed brat... he has thought that of me for years now...

I am 32 now....

sibling perspective is not always the best for clues about someones state of mind.

Obviously I don't know for certain that this kid was a jihadist, but I truly don't understand your skepticism.

It's not just about how he looks. First, suicide by bomb isn't the way depressed college pukes do it. Second, he was roomies with a Paki, not an Pennsylvania Amish kid. Third, he was at the Islamic center earlier in the day. Fourth, he went to a public place, a very crowded public place, to set off his suicide machine - the fact that he didn't kill anyone else doesn't necessarily suggest to me that he didn't intend to.

Why do you discount all this evidence?

See my post 65, and the link. And what is your interest in arguing this kid isn't a jihadi, and wanted to kill people?

Dude, look at the shirt in the pic above. It has effed-up muslim written all over it.

Whoa you can tell someones political/social/religious stands by the cloths they wear or the way they look? I hope you don't ever see pictures of me in college; for then I would be considered a radical extremist. By the way what does your appearance and clothing tell people?AWB

I am not discounting this evidence... just the source that it has come from... the media... who has been know to sensationalize and create stories that are not their...

(i.e. Bush national guard story, Chris Matthews and the dead grandma story from Katrina...)

And how do you know they didn't? The cops seized his computer. What was on it has not been revealed, although there have been reports it containted jihadist materials. If there was info leading to a wider network they certainly wouldn't tell the world.

I hope the Islam Center he visited earlier in the day has been searched from top to bottom by the FBI and a pack of eager bomb/powder/chemical-sniffing hounds.

I'm sure there's a rule in the FBI field handbook that tells them they can't go into a mosque for fear of being culturally insensitive.

I contend that he intended to get inside that stadium and stopped for some reason to adjust the device or something and set it off by error. Lucky that he did it outside rather than inside and kill and maim a bunch of innocents.

I watched the video and listen to the reporter on that link... it was nothing more then the local station throwing the facts together....and speculation... their interest in the story is ratings not getting the facts out...

Look i am not giving the kid a free pass on this I am just not convince that this was a jihadi...

now if they tell me that they have conclusive hate literature from him or written by him, or that he met with know terrorist that is a little more concrete, but just because he had a pac roommate and when to a mosque does not a jihadi make him...

if that were the case am I a Buddhist because I went to Thailand and visited Buddhist temples, and read Buddhist literature when I was in my twenties?... no... I was exploring and learning...

I think you're correct, but that's pure speculation on my part. The bomb may have been a science project ...
