Thank you George Will. Can't speak for anyone else, but it's impossible for me to support this nominee and like Will, I hope she's defeated. However that's of course highly unlikely. Bush will have enough Democratic votes to handily overcome any core conservative revolt on this one. Oh well, I guess we can't have everything. Hopefully the negative political implications of the discord he's wrought in the base, will improve GWB's selection process if Stevens' seat opens.
The notion that any prospective replacement will be any better is unreasonably optimistic, to say the least.
Even a withdrawal of the nomination-which would have been the best possible outcome of this process-is unlikely.
I'll say it once again.
